Peter cleaned up Norman's secret office in record time. He wanted to get as far away from the room as possible. It was surprising that Norman's spirit decided to leave Peter alone during the clean up, considering he had made his presence known while he had Pete locked in the room earlier. It wasn't that Peter didn't believe that the ghost thing was ( Read more... )

After calming Harry down, Connor went into Harry's office, and dialed Peter's number. It was Sunday, so Peter wasn't going to be at college or at work, but in just in case, the first thing he asks once Peter picks up the phone, without a greeting, is:

"Are you alone? Can you talk?"

MJ is at the theater for the early matinee of her play. He managed to keep the paper from her, but he knows she'll have seen it by the time she returns home. It gives him a few hours to sort through his thoughts.

When the phone rings and it's Harry's number he hesitates answering just for a moment. Then he remembers Harry's crack about leaving all those messages on Peter's answering machine. He can't push Harry away again if he's reaching out. Of course it turns out to not be Harry on the other end of the phone.

"Yeah. I take it you read the paper."

"Yes, I've read it. So has Harry. He was about to jump of the balcony when I pulled him back,"

Connor says tersely, though technically speaking Harry had been sitting on the edge, literary, but he knew what had gone through Harry's mind.

"He didn't do it. I don't care what it looks like, he didn't. That old bastard hijacked his body. Or someone else did. But it wasn't Harry."

He takes a breath.

"Look, I know how he behaved yesterday, but he calmed down after that."

After that and an argument.

"And he told me he had blackouts in the last two weeks or so. He already went to a doctor because of that, some guy named Griffin who works at OsCorp. So what this looks like to me is either hypnosis or possession or both. But it's not Harry. Are we clear on that?"

"Okay so you're taking the position of good cop so let me try bad cop for a couple of minutes," Peter says in a tired voice, as he rubs his temple. He likes Connor's theory. The problem is, he's the one who has experience dealing with the Green Goblin ( ... )

MJ is speaking to her director when she sees Peter come into the back of the theater, she can't help the small smile that instantly appears on her face. She quickly finishes the conversation about the dialouge in the play and picks up her things before heading down the aisle to where Peter is standing.

The moment she sees him she knows something is wrong. He brow furrows in worry and she reaches out to take his hand.

"Peter, what's wrong?"

The smile would normally make him smile in return, but he's too stressed out. Instead he asks in a soft voice, "Any chance you can leave now? I need to talk to you and we can't talk here."

He gives her an apologetic look and hope she will understand that he wouldn't ask her to leave if it wasn't an emergency.

MJ nods and waves to her director, who rolls his eyes in response and turns his back on them. Looks like they'd been dismissed, it was just as well anyway, she didn't particularly care for the bug eyed little man on most days.

She takes Peter's hand, still concerned and they head towards the exit.

"Where are we headed?" There are only so many places that it's safe to talk about things they couldn't speak about in the theatre. MJ can't help but worry more.

"Let's take a walk," Peter said in case anyone was listening. They left the theater and he casually escorted her down the street until they reached an alley. Once he was sure no one was watching, he wrapped his arm around her waist and used his web to take them to the roof of the building. It had been a risk, but he was sure they got by unnoticed.

"Hey." He said as he took a step back once they were on the roof. "The Green Goblin is back. I'm not sure, but there is a good chance it's Harry."

They say it's easiest to just rip the band-aid off instead of slowly tugging it away. The look on MJ's face tells Peter maybe he should have eased into the conversation.
