Back in 1999 Ben Daniels starred in what's been dubbed the North's answer to 'Four Weddings and a Funeral': 'Fanny and Elvis'. Also starring were Kerry Fox (Kate), Ray Winstone (Dave), David Morrissey (Rob) and Colin Salmon (Alan) (playing Ben's gay character's love interest!). Below the cut is a picspam of many of Andrew's appearances: he is Kate's actor lodger.
When you've just found out your husband's been having an affair while you slaved over your red-hot computer to finish your first novel, what you really need is a friend to comfort you - and help you trash your husband's stuff!
Andrew's trying to find a jacket to wear to his audition for the role of a doctor in a TV soap - he wonders if he looks straight in it?
Andrew meets Alan, Kate's bank manager for the first time as he gets home from his audition, having won the part of a doctor for six months.
Kate tells Andrew that she's going to get a lodger to help with her finances since her husband's emptied their bank account. When Dave turns up to bring Kate the bill for repairs to his Jag (which she damaged), Andrew mistakes him for a prospective lodger. Kate's not impressed, as Dave's wife is the person with whom her husband's been having an affair.
Andrew's organising food for the party he's throwing to celebrate his first episode of 'Intensive Care' being broadcast - and trying to persuade Kate to invite Dave along, but she's reluctant, saying she doesn't really like him since his wife is shagging her husband. Andrew suggests she retaliate in kind, and calls Dave 'Sex on legs'.
Andrew is encouraging everyone to come into the house to watch his first episode.
At the start of the film, Kate's gynaecologist told her that she only had a year left in which to get pregnant. And then her husband ditched her. She and Andrew visit a fertility clinic together - he's offered to donate his sperm so that she can have a baby, and says that this is the only way he'll get to be a dad.
Andrew and Alan come home to find Kate preparing to tell Dave that she's fallen pregnant (after the two slept together following their Christmas party).
The following morning (Kate's birthday), Andrew brings her breakfast in bed. (If he walked through my door looking like that? I'd ditch breakfast and have him! Rawr! I confess my eyes were drawn below the tray and I can't help thinking he could easily steal David Tennant's nickname! *cough* )
Kate's not interested in her birthday. Dave didn't come home the night before, so he doesn't know yet that he's a father-to-be, and Alan rang Andrew to say he thinks they're getting too serious. So Andrew joins Kate in bed for a bit of cuddling and mutual comfort.
With Dave refusing to come near Kate, Andrew goes to the pre-natal clinic with her - where she asks about the baby's sex...
... and discovers she's actually expecting twins, which leaves her a bit shell-shocked as she and Andrew go shopping for baby clothes. (Andrew, on the other hand, is delighted!)
Andrew tries to track down Dave - and goes to see Dave's ex-wife in the guise of his TV character (with additional moustache and 'milk-bottle-bottom' glasses), and pretends that Dave has a new and very rare, STD so he desperately needs to find Dave.
Andrew manages to reunite Kate and Dave, just in time for her to go into labour, on New Year's Eve, 1999! He races to the hospital as he's her birthing partner, but then he decides he's not so keen on assisting with the birth - although watching Kate's daughter being born is a lovely experience...
... as he tells Alan when the latter turns up at the hospital. At first he pretends not to have missed Alan in the least, but they reconcile, indulging in a nice reunion kiss!
Because I created many more screencaps than I've used here, I have zipped them all up and uploaded the file
here at MediaFire if anyone wants them for fanart-making purposes.
