So I didn't sleep at all last night- didn't even try. I spent the entire night drawing in photoshop because I had been struck with inspiration. After pausing to attend class, eat breakfast, and grab a quick nap, I'm pretty pleased with how this drawing is coming. It's a well known myth, everyone knows it- The Rape of Persephone,
or,
Hades Snatches Persephone to the Underworld and She Can't Keep Her Hands Off Some Tasty Fruit
Since work on this one has gone so fast, I'm going to show it in three stages, and post the finished work on my deviantart.
First, my original sketch. It's good for a laugh. Honestly, no talent or hard work goes into this at all, it's just about getting the basic idea down.
Next, I went straight to the lineart. (on a new layer of course) I'm still working on that- the armor and cape isn't any fun but Persephone's hair and clothes surprisingly are. I drew all these awesome ruffles at the bottom of her shirt before realizing Hades arms went there. I had to erase all my pretty ruffles...
I have however, skipped to the coloring. (new layer, shading included. Because i'm silly) I'm playing around with cell shading and trying to guess at the lighting. Her expression hasn't turned out as scared as I'd hoped. I'm gonna have to tweak her eyebrows upside-down. I do like the difference shading has made on Hades face. It looks properly intimidating now.
So. Basically, this is what I've been doing nonstop since last night. Essays? Art projects? I don't know what you're talking about! I am so weird.
I have, however, come to a conclusion concerning my Greek art. Well, It is pretty much fanart and that's how I feel drawing it. However, it's like mythic fanart which makes it okay. Because the best art in history pretty much comes down to fanart. Waterhouse did a ton of Greek myths. And his Lady of Shallot? Amazing, gorgeous, wow, but still fanart for the poem of the same name. 8/ Pretty much every renaissance master did some work based on a myth or biblical story. I don't really know what to make of that except that while I'm not drawing my own characters, this isn't exactly a step down. I didn't have time to organize my thoughts obviously so that's all for now.
