I didn't get any work done on any wip's or really any serious art.  I was preoccupied with this monster Rape of the Lock essay for one, and also I was busy researching Greek myth.  Not that I wasn't already doing that in my Mythology class but I've decided to draw all of the olympians (and other important gods) in my own style.
 So I've been ( Read more... )

I'm not very into Greek mythology myself (at the moment anyway), and what I do know is basically what I remember from high school English and Hercules. I am interested in the way there was more or less equal treatment of genders and as you say "sex everywhere" because I hate it when people try and make it sound like homosexuality is somehow some new invention. Just point to the Greeks and they shut up.
I like your depiction of Hades simply because the only image I have in my head is the one from Hercules...which considering it was a children's movie, I'm sure yours is more accurate. Haha

I'm sure mine is more accurate, considering he's not blue with firey hair. ;)
But yeah, I totally agree with how silly the theory that homosexually is new is. Really, the idea that it is wrong is what's new. The Greeks saw the love between two men as 'spritual' and very beautiful. And we don't even get 'romantic friendships' like the Victorians between straight men because of the fear that people will get the 'wrong idea.' Sometimes I just don't know what to make of it.
It's like they started to accept people of other nationalities and women, but still needed someone to hate. So LGBT's became the new 'them'.

That's a good theory. People needed some new group to hate. It makes sense.

It's the us vs. them theory- generally that a circle of 'us' which only included our original small villages and tribes is very slowly expanding over time to include everyone on the planet, hopefully to eventually include animals as well. I think that's oversimplifying things, and that we will always need a 'them'. The hate shifts, it doesn't just fade away.
