Tonsillectomy Post-op: Day 4

Mar 30, 2008 14:52

So far the pain is not much worse than it was on day 1. In fact, I think day 1 was the worst of all.

The Lortab elixir (hydrocodone + tylenol) has been working pretty great to control the pain, but nausea has been an occasional issue that has been popping up from time to time. On day 2 I vomited up all my applesauce that I had had for breakfast after taking a teaspoon of the lortab. This morning after my applesauce and Slimfast breakfast, I spent a good hour or two going back and forth from the bathroom to the couch, debating whether I would begin vomiting again. Luckily, I haven't yet, and the nausea has mostly subsided. I'm about to eat a bowl of crushed-up over-cooked ramen for lunch and then I will try and take my amoxicillin. I will cross my fingers that the two settle alright and that I feel better after putting something in my stomach.

Last night I was brave and grabbed a flashlight and stood in front of the mirror in the bathroom. I have white scabs over where I used to have giant tonsils (white scabs is a really good sign - that means I have been hydrating myself really well like a good girl). Although it did sort of freak me out to look back there and see how open my throat was now. No more tonsils to poison and obstruct.

I guess all in all, I was expecting this to be a much more painful and difficult procedure than it has been so far. I still feel pretty awful at times, but nothing as bad as I was expecting. I am sure my age is a huge reason why this has been so much easier than I was expecting, and that knowledge has made me incredibly thankful and pleased that I chose to have this surgery done now rather than later on in my life.

In other news, scaffolding for house painting is going up on Monday so I will be awoken probably at 7am for that. But Priscilla (Ryan's mother) will be coming in to town and will hopefully be bringing me some more Slimfast to keep me nourished - which I appreciate.
Oh! And Sophie has finally started taking herself out to go potty! We installed a doggy door for her a couple weeks ago and it's been difficult for her to get used to hopping through it but yesterday she kept taking herself out to pee and today she's hopping out the door just to go run in the yard or see who's taking their garbage out. It's like we can hardly keep her in now! So exciting.

Anyways, that is my update. Pain, nausea, but a good little doggy and excitement that these damn things are out of my throat finally! In a few weeks, I'll be good as new!
