I'm staying at the Wellness Center because I have a cold. Taking it easy failed miserably, so I've confined myself a parking lot away from my dorm. It's a bad cold, too, with headaches and a cough that makes me sound like I'm in my nineties.
When the nurse brought me tea for my throat, she said, "Once a waitress, always a waitress."
"You were a waitress?" I asked.
"Everyone is at some point," she said, and I agreed, thinking of my time busing and being a cashier at restaurants.
She then informed me that there are five traditionally female occupations, and she's had three of them. "I was a teacher then a waitress while I went to school to be a nurse. As for the other two, I'm not smart enough to be a secretary and not friendly enough to be a prostitute!" Then she laughed, then I laughed, and then she left.
