So it's been almost two months since I moved to San Francisco, and things have been going well. I have a job offer that I won't write about just yet because it's not a sure thing...but boy, would it be amazing. I have another offer at a company in Pleasanton that would be a 1.5 - 2 hour commute by public transit. It would be good money--enough that I wouldn't have to worry about making it here, certainly, but the commute is troubling. I'll figure that out soon.
I bought a Macbook Pro (refurbished, 13"), and I loooove it. I'm writing on it now and I'm just a few program and file transfers from being pretty much done with the Dell. The Dell, to its credit, was a gift from my Dad and had been used for years by the time he gave it to me, and lasted longer than its natural lifespan. I wrote almost all of my novel on it and worked on hundreds of graphic design projects. It was, at times, a fickle device, prone to freezing, crashing, and moving as slow as a retarded tortoise. But it was mine, and it did its job. It's a bit put out at the shiny new dream-machine that has replaced it, but I'm pretty sure it understands.
I've actually made a lot of monetary investments in graphic design lately--the Macbook, the Adobe CS5 Creative Suite, a monthly subscription to Lynda.com, a designing pad, etc. I just decided that, until I can support myself with my writing, this is my trade. And I'm going to do everything I can do be the best graphic designer / illustrator that I can. Plus, all of these shiny new toys are fun.
I'm still working at Blu, which isn't great money most nights, but the good nights usually make up for it. It's a great place and I have been going to the gym almost every day. I've taken up boxing and I loooove it. My boxing instructor is actually Dave Chappelle's private boxing trainer. Chappelle was in the bar a few nights ago and while I didn't really talk to him, he was two feet away from me for a few minutes. I was very, very quietly freaking out.
I went to a Hunky Jesus competition on Easter Sunday and watched a man spread-eagled flash a thousand people, to riotous applause. Then my new good friend Craig Rouskey and I went to see a David Sedaris reading, which was as phenomenal as I'd hoped it would be. There's something inspiring about going to see the kind of writer I just wasn't born to be at the top of his game and thriving.

I'll write about what job I go for later...fingers crossed for the as-yet-unnamed job that would really be fantastic.
