Tonight I went to an amazing free (FREE!) concert at the Symphony Center in downtown Chicago
The concert consisted of RImsky-Korsakov's Russian Easter Overature, Shostakovich Piano Concerto #1, Stravinsky Firebird Suite and a piece thrown in by a Mexican for no particular reason.
The pianist who was featured in the Shostakovich has elastic arms and hands, she looked weightless and crazy flexible as she glided effortlessly over the keyboard. The piece also featured a trumpet solo which caused me to have what my icon calls a "Musicgasm"
For those who don't know, my icon pictures one of my musical boyfriends Leonard Bernstein.
The Firebird suite was, as one would expect, transcendent, evocative, astounding.
Afterward,
songquake who went to the concert with me (and is my concert-going, musicgeek buddy) and I went to a corner coffee shop and talked about music. Including her picturing Faulkes from HP during the Firebird Suite. And we also discussed the concept of musical boyfriends and who would be our musical fuckbuddies, puppy loves and daliances. (Arvo Part, Gustav Holst and Debussy in that order for me)
It was a fantastic evening, and once again has me singing the praises of Chicago and its free offerings.
Hearing music in a symphony hall is such a blessing!
I'm am gleeful and blissed out.
