_stormwolf_ asked me for some book recommendations, and I am happy to oblige :).
1.)  The Thief of Always by Clive Barker.  It's an incredible dark fantasy novel for adults, young and old.  I read it when I was 12, and my love has not wavered with time.  It's ( Read more... )

Ender's Game is an excellent book, too. Orson Scott Card recently made some questionable remarks, but that book has always had a place in my heart.

You're very welcome :). It was a pleasure to think back on some of my favorite works...Hope you find something you'll enjoy!

*Hugs back*

What remarks did he make? I really don't know anything about him other than that he wrote Ender's Game. haha

He supports President Bush and scolds those who criticize the war on terror. Considering he wrote Ender's Game, a decidedly anti-war book in my eyes, he must have had a serious change of heart ;).

Ah, well... considering I bought this used, I wasn't supporting him anyway. ;)

Hey, I just finished Ender's Game... Or rather, I'll be done in a few pages... I got much more of an "us or them" mentality rather than any strong anti-war sentiments. How do you figure it to be an anti-war book? (I'm not doubting you, btw... Actually--as usual--I'm doubting myself)

The best books are those that are open to multiple interpretations, I think :). Ender's Game has a lot of themes: the results of war, the exploitation of gifted or promising youth, alienation, etc. The rest of the series, which is worth a read, deals more with the "us vs. them" theme. In fact, one book is called Xenophobia.

I can't decide if I like the multiple interpretation thing. It sometimes leaves me wondering if I really "got it" or if I'm too dumb. LOL And that frustrates me. But then, I overthink EVERYTHING, it seems. Especially lately. Arrrgh!
