Ender's Game is an excellent book, too. Orson Scott Card recently made some questionable remarks, but that book has always had a place in my heart.

What remarks did he make? I really don't know anything about him other than that he wrote Ender's Game. haha

He supports President Bush and scolds those who criticize the war on terror. Considering he wrote Ender's Game, a decidedly anti-war book in my eyes, he must have had a serious change of heart ;).

I would recommend 1776, I reading right now and it is a very good narrative, looking at the revolutionary war.
