Day 4

Aug 09, 2011 23:56

Today, 2 things of note happened.

First, while painting the Sierpinski triangle onto a wineglass, it worked out so perfectly that not only was I able to finish the central triangle, but the design wrapped exactly halfway around the glass, so I can do matching ones on each side, which will look REALLY COOL.

Second, I went to an Alison Krauss concert. Alison Krauss is a folk singer, and a woman with an incredible singing voice. Unfortunately, I seem to be the only person who thinks her music can be considered folk music; everyone else is convinced it's "country," which I can't stand most of the time.  So there were people selling cowboy hats at the door, and drunk people in the audience yelling at the performers while they were talking. I sat between my dad and a guy that smelled like the basement of Alpha Tau Omega on a Saturday night (read: equal parts beer and gross) and fortunately there were seats because this was a long-ass concert. It began with a band called Daws, and they were good in a country sort of way (I don't like it, but I can appreciate it). Also, they were all really attractive, so that helped. Their lead singer was the drummer: how cool is that?

Then Alison and Union Station came out, and they were amazing (though the featured guitarist may have been a bit of a tool). Every person in the band was fantastic at his or her instrument. Alison herself was so much better than I had imagined she would be: I've been listening to her music my whole life, because my mom is a fan.  In addition, her personality and appearance reminded me a bit of Luna Lovegood. The venue was set up so that the stage was framing the blast furnaces of the abandoned Bethlehem Steel factory, and they projected light shows onto it, and it was so cool.

While trying to find our way to the show, we found ourselves in the parking garage of the Sands Casino. Somehow, we had gotten ourselves trapped in the valet parking, and we had to find a way out without going into the casino because my brother and I are under 21. We went in anyway. It felt like the Forbidden Forest in there.

So that was my day.

irl fun, beda, music, happy happy joy joy, :d
