Damn, this is nice. Add me to the list of zanpakutou fans. I'm curious to know how you imagine Zaraki's sword (I absolutely love the detail of her - her! - being silent when asked her name because she was so surprised).

I also like the notion that the relationships between swords and wielders can be very different, depending on individual personalities.

You know what? I'm not quite sure why I wrote her the way I did... just kind of sprung to my head in that form and I listened to whatever my muse was telling me. But looking back, I think it would be tragically lovely for Kenpachi's Zanpakutou to be everything he isn't on the surface but a lot of the things he might be given different circumstances.

Or I don't know what I'm talking about, which is completely possible too. ^^;;

Absolutely. In my "20 things about Zaraki" fic I had a line about him finding out the name and nature of his zanpakutou, and his first reaction being that he was better off not knowing.

I love the idea that it would be a reflection of what he might have been.

He has this inherent nobility I think, that just comes across as... maybe blunt? But I can't stop thinking about that little speech in 206 to Ikkaku. Simple but pretty damn eloquent all the same. I think he's got this sense of being thoroughly incorruptible and after you get Gin and Aizen and Tousen, who all represent three different facets of treachery, Kenpachi's personality becomes much more appealing to everyone because he has an honesty to himself and everyone around him that the three of them all lacked.

Or I'm just a complete Kenpachi fangirl, take your pick. ^^;;

I'll join you on the fangirl bench, then.

The other thing that makes him stand out in comparison to Gin, Aizen, and Tousen, is that those three created a form of loyalty in their subordinates through deceit, manipulation, etc. is that Zaraki isn't trying to get that kind of loyalty, and yet there are people who could be captains or vice-captains in other divisions refusing to be pried out of the eleventh, even if it would mean a promotion. Sorry to be spamming your journal with this discussion, but he's just such a fascinating character. ^^;

No problem! I could probably talk about Kenpachi forever.

And when you look at it, everyone that's come out of his division seems to do a lot better than those who didn't.

Iba and Renji both became vice-captains

and now Ikkaku and presumably Yumichika had what it took to stick it out and achieve bankai the quick way. It's supposed to kill people who aren't strong enough?

So they're on the track to becoming captains too, yes?

Whether they want to or not, they're strong enough now, and I can't help but think there's just something about the eleventh that fortifies its members as well as inspires loyaltly towards the captain. ^^
