I like my commute for the most part. I get to sleep most times I need a nap on the train, and there's almost always ample room (currently there are 2 occasions where there were no seats, so I gave mine up for a pregnant woman and an older lady. Yeah, yeah. Mom is so proud, too.
Anyway, the train ride is great, smooth and comfortable. The walk from the PATH station to/from work is great too. Scenic with the Empire State Building, fragrant with the flower displays at Amish Market and this little bodega at another corner if I plan it right. It's the PATH that sucks. Major league ass suckage. It smells, it's never ventilated right, the trains are too infrequently run, it costs almost $2 a trip, the trains are mostly from the 70s and 80s, it's not a smooth ride, and there's a bridge that I'm told can freeze in the winter, killing the commute time. On top of it, there's the insane guy that pops on once in a while who likes to talk to everyone about whatever conspiracy (this week: credit cards are really issued by the CIA to control us from having financial freedom). There's "Grown Ass Man" who has refused to turn down his music on occasion (not yesterday, when there were 6 of us and I was the smallest) when we can hear it. This dude refuses to use headphones, listens on the speaker in his phone and likes to tell people he's not going to turn it down because he, "Bought this phone with my own money. I'm not a child. I'm a grown ass man. I gots 3 kids!" In our first encounter, I told him that only proves he doesn't know about these new things called condoms. So, perhaps I'm a bit combative, but at least I can leave it on the train.
