Low Iodine Diet cheat-sheet

Because I don't want to have to re-do everything next year...and the year after that...I'm jotting down LID-safe stuff I've found during my (sucky suck suck) time on LID this go-round.

NOTE: check nutrition labels for soy, eggs, molasses, chocolate and other LID no-nos before a huge pig-out!

* George Weston Bakeries, makers of Thomas' English Muffins, Entenmann's, Boboli, Arnold and Strohmann Breads (along with a few others we don't get 'round here) *DO NOT* use iodized salt or iodate dough conditioners. How do I know this? They called me after I e-mailed 'em. Sweet.

* Crazy Richard's Peanut Butter has one ingredient: peanuts. That's it. It's also very easy to stir & spread (an anomaly for most peanut-only butters.) You can add kosher/plain salt to it, but really? Doesn't need it. Another pleasant anomaly.

* Giant Brand Instant Oatmeal & Giant Brand Cereal: Foodhold USA, the distributors, said they use plain, non-iodized, salt in all their products. GREAT instant breakfast (and packable food -- note to self for this weekend....)

* Bearitos Organic No Salt No Oil Microwave Popcorn: seriously. Again with one ingredient: organic popcorn. And a test-drive @ my friend's pad last night showed that it actually pops. It's tasty; maybe I'm getting the hang of my low-satfat everyday diet. Yay?

* Braswell's Select Red Pepper Jelly: I'd link to the web site, but it doesn't seem like they carry it anymore (oh, okay...here.) I found it at Marshall's. No salt at all. And no other ix-nay ingredients either.

* Kellogg's Frosted Mini Wheats Maple and Brown Sugar: No added salt! The regular, Cinnamon Streusel seem cool too. The rest have soy oil, which some LID restrict. The plain would probably make a great base for a snack mix.... NOTE: *don't* just buy any type of frosted wheat cereal, a few of 'em have soy, cargeenan, and/or other ingredients.

* Vermont Bread Company Sodium Free Whole Wheat Bread: no salt added, like the label says. Plus, no iodate dough conditioners. Soy flour is listed, but it's the very last item, beneath yeast and vinegar. Plus, UMMC ain't limiting anything but shoyu (aka soy sauce.) So I'm limiting myself and following the ThyCa listings instead. Y'know, just in case. 'Cause I don't want to drag this out longer because my levels aren't low enough next Wednesday. >_<

* Smucker's Low Sugar Preserves: because I'm trying to find stuff that's low in calories yet yummy. Their Simply Fruit is, of course, fine too. But it's nice to be able to not worry about loading on pounds from at least one ingredient, what with all the fruit, juice & oil I'm sucking back.

* WalMart brand low-calorie drink mix (aka "phoney-baloney Crystal Light": mmm. Love this stuff anyway. Thank goodness it's fine on LID.

More later, as I find it.
