Seriously, the longer I go before I update the harder it is to do it! (In fact, I wrote this all out about a week ago...look at me procrastinate!) So now I'm just going to grab that bull by the horns and do a little dance! :D
First! I have a job! Yes, a real job!
Part of me, burned previously by disappointment, didn't want to say anything at first. I got a temp job back in September that was long term, but I wasn't sure how long. I'd gotten a few rave reviews from a couple of shorter assignments so I was feeling pretty good about myself, but when a group hires 35 people and says it's for a couple of months, you don't really know what to expect. But...in March, I was the one they kept. There was one position available and I applied, interviewed and was hired :D Yes, the Blue Job Fairy smacked me with her wand and made me a Real Employee! With Benefits! (This amuses me because I work for the Benefits dept of the company.)
I love my job. I like helping people (and talking >.>) and that is what I do! :) Nice hours, short commute, great co-workers, no more depression...I am happy! :)
Another change I made: When I got the job temping (where I now work) back in September, I needed to find a way to get there. Bus Passes have been my go-to, but I decided to price how much a scooter would be. It's like $20 more per month. Uhm. Yes, I'll take the red one, please? :D It is Shiny and Red and goes "Vroom! Putt, putt, putt" LOL. Only a 49cc engine, but it gets the job done! Instead of three buses and at least an hour's commute each way, every day...I spend 15-20 minutes each trip. When the weather is bad, that is what my blue poncho is for!
Also I'm finally catching up on a few things: Bills, Housecleaning, Projects and the like. It is amazing how far behind you can fall when not working :( You might expect the bills, but not working can lead to depression and apathy and then nothing gets done.
Of course, now it is all about time and money management :) The good news is that I am now off food stamps! The bad news is...now I am off food stamps and have to remember to budget for food! LOL. Fortunately my gas is like $2-3 per week...scooters get amazing gas mileage :D Oh, oh! I've even started the process to get my student loan out of default! (Yeah, five years of no job...)
Not to ignore the huge elephant hiding in the room for the last year: GameStorm! I was chair of GameStorm 17, which happened this last March. We had...issues. Not enough volunteers, scheduling software finished really late, hotel double booking part of our space...yeah. The levels of stress I have found...and white hairs. >.> I had to replace people, find workarounds, etc, but I am very lucky, blessed even, to be surrounded by some true gems who really came through for me and for the convention, finding amazing solutions and kicking butt. We ended up using the hotel's garage (called Level G) and adding pipe & drape, carpet, lights, etc to make it an amazing space. People were skeptical about gaming in the garage before the convention, but we totally wowed them and got really good reviews! :) In fact, though we lost a few memberships, in the end we had 1547 people attend! That's almost 20% higher than last year!
And now...I'm done. LOL Back to just being Hotel Liaison, not being in charge. Wooo!
I laugh though because right now I'm working on a volunteer appreciation party for OSFCI for people who have staffed any of our recent events or help with the funds. Ah the glamorous life of a non-profit board member! (Who can't not volunteer...LOL)
As you might guess, I haven't had much time/mental energy to write. But I am hoping to change that soon!
Projects? Well...aside from crocheting five baby Groots, I haven't done much there, either. On the other hand...baby Groots are awesome. I may make another! Especially since I keep selling or gifting them away. LOL
Health...mm...working on it!
Oh, and I got the cutest hair cut last week! Many compliments, much happy! ;)
So...to sum up (too late!): Life is Perky! And so am I! :D *squishes you all*
