Highly enjoyable day today. Or, at least the evening. Chris and Chelsea visited for pizza and a movie. We watched Get Smart and I really enjoyed it. It was a movie I had highly anticipated but hesitated to actually watch. I have great memories of the old tv series, and as much faith as I would normally place in Steven Carell, I didn't trust him with the material that contributed to my fascination with the Cold War. Yes, I love campy (but never the 60's Batman campy, never that) so I was pleased with the delivery of the classic lines "Would you believe..." "Missed it by THAT much" and single use of the shoe phone. I was slightly disappointed that Seigfried was portrayed so seriously, but he was surrounded by comic relief, so I guess it evened out. Anyway, bottom line, it exceeded expectations.
The earlier part of today proved pretty tedious. My project is entering stagnation. I require a little direction from my PI, but he has not deemed it a priority yet. We are short a hood and that makes scheduling the culture work of 5 people in 2 hoods very tricky. It will get better.
The holidays are upon us. I hear the crowds are already massing at the centers of commerce. This intimidates me. I may do a lot of shopping online this year. Except for my nephew Kolton. It's going to be so much fun to have a 5-6mo old around at the holidays.
I found out about a 1 year old German Shepard being given away and acquired it for my mom. She's always wanted a German Shepard, but I'm a little worried about combination of his huge size and her advancing age (she would scoff at that). He was 85 lbs!!!! So big! She was far more excited by him than I expected. His name is Saxon, quite a respectable name for a dog of such stature, I feel. Adjusting to farm life may be shocking. Once he encounters the horses and cattle, I suspect they will be the first four-legged creatures he's ever met that are larger than himself. He seemed to be intimidated by the 8 month old shepherd mix named Daisy.
I'm looking forward to Quantum of Solace this weekend. Also, to the Watchmen trailer attached. I understand the projected run time for Watchmen is 2hr 42minutes. I can't tell you how excited I am to see this put on the big screen. I also can't tell you how concerned I am that a significant portion of my enthusiasm is attached to Hollywood projects. I really need to prioritize.
As I've been leaving work the past few evenings at twilight, I've heard the eerie whistles of bottle rockets being launched at the flocks of migrating birds. It was extremely creepy the first few evenings when the bird density was highest and I couldn't identify the sound beyond that of generic explosive. I suppose it's a roosting deterrent, but it concerns me that agitating the flocks would only serve to stir up more bird particulate. Either way, I have been moved to raise my collar and walk a little faster to get off campus.
I should be going to bed now, but I'll probably delay a little longer to check on the lolcats. In anticipation of the inevitable, good night and sweet dreams.
