As of today I am officially 1/3rd of the way through grad school-- 9 months down, 18 more to go! This morning I took my Kinesiology final then tutored at Literacy Source, then went to my classmate Katie’s house for a while, and am now home. John’s been in Maryland since Friday but he’s coming back tonight, hooray! I’m meeting him at the airport around 10pm, which means I have a little while to relax and do absolutely nothing. Directly after taking the final I was talking to a classmate about how anticlimactic the end of a quarter always feels. However, that was at a very early hour in the morning- by now a pleasant feeling of relief has definitely sunk in.

Okay, now for a story. Saturday night I was sitting at the kitchen table studying, occasionally taking short breaks to putter around. During one of my breaks I decided to water the 18 houseplants we’ve managed to stuff into our one bedroom apartment. After watering the plants I sat back down to study and noticed that I had over watered the mother-in-law’s tongue (that’s a plant) on the windowsill next to the kitchen table, causing the excess water to run out into the clear plastic dish that the planter sits in. Lalala…study study study….next thing I know I look over at the mother-in-law’s tongue and see that in addition to the water seeping out from the bottom of the planter, a bunch of worms are seeping out too! The worms were really skinny and about 3 inches long and incredibly gross. They were swimming in the dish and crawling out onto the windowsill. I jumped up from the table and started freaking out- I’m not a big fan of worms and this was just way too gross. I managed to get some of the worms into a napkin and threw the napkin in the trash- then I immediately took the trash out to the dumpster b/c I was afraid the worms would crawl out. By the time I got back to the kitchen there were even more worms coming out of the bottom of the plant. I kept grabbing the worms in napkins and flushing them down the toilet, but more kept coming. Then, bugs with legs started crawling out of the bottom of the planter. It was like a bad acid trip, or the D.T.s or something! I called my mom- it was about midnight in Maryland- and she told me to get rid of the plant, but it’s my favorite and it’s doing really well (now I know why)! So, I firmly told the worms that I didn’t have any problem with them living in my plant, just so long as they stayed in the plant. I told them that if they wanted to swim around in the dish while the plant’s soil dried out that would be okay, but if they crossed over onto the windowsill I’d have to take action. Some of the worms listened, others did not. All in all I spent a considerable amount of time fighting the onslaught of bugs. It was very unnerving.

12 days of freedom before the summer quarter starts! Big, exciting plans….stay posted!
