WORK:
One activity that all 2nd year UW occupational therapy students participate in is a transfer training session at a community site where older adults receive occupational therapy. The other day I learned about the single coolest animal ever: the bowerbird. Holy shit...it's awesome.

There are 20 species of bowerbirds, all of which live in Australia and/or New Guinea. For the most part, bowerbirds are pretty ordinary- they eat fruit and bugs, fly around, whatever. BUT they also have this realllly crazy courtship ritual!

During the two and a half years that I was in grad school I completely forgot how amazing weekends are. This weekend I found out that I passed my occupational therapy boards :) I took the test on February 5th and was fairly convinced that I had blown it, but apparently not. The last entry I wrote begins, “I just finished my second week at Virginia Mason". Well, now I’ve finished my 8th week. That means only 4 more to go! I spent the last three weeks on the rehab unit while my acute care supervisor was on vacation. Now my original supervisor is back, so it’s back to acute care for me. I just finished my second week at Virginia Mason. Here's my analysis thus far:

THINGS I REALLY LIKE

• My Clinical Instructor is really really nice, super enthusiastic, and knows a ton. She's very easy to be with all day, and I can tell that she's very invested in my learning. Man, I have really good luck with fieldwork supervisors!

It's been like 8 weeks since my last entry, blech.

I finished my first fieldwork (at the skilled nursing facility), yay!!! It's was an amazing experience, and I feel very grateful for the opportunity to work with such great therapists and patients. John and I moved into a new apartment last weekend. We had seven friends to help us move, which was amazing. It took about an hour to move out of the old place with two expert helpers, and two hours to move into the new place with five expert helpers.
