So, as you probably figured out from my frantic email post, Bamboozle '08 was fucking epic. Here is the story, complete with pictures! IT'S GONNA BE FUN!
(BTW if, for whatever reason, you'd like to make icons out of any of the pictures I've taken, there's no need to ask & no need to credit. :D)
We left at around 10:00 and arrived at Giants Stadium by 11-ish. Chantal was excited.
There was a huge mob of people--like, freaking enormous--in front of the entrance.
It took quite a long time to get to the actual gate, and I was rather bored. In the mean time, I was texting Julia (
lemmethink_nooo) and asking her about her and Nadja's (
falsepretences) whereabouts. By the time we made it to the gate they still hadn't arrived, so we went inside. I propped myself up against a big black tarp, next to Chantal, and we waited. I was BORED
So of course, I took pictures of myself, haha.
Finally, Julia texted me with a very excited, "WE'RE HEEEERE!" or something like that, and I was like, "OMG!" They finally made it inside, but were having trouble finding us. I had just received a message from Julia asking where we were, and I was in the process of texting her back (bent over my phone trying to figure out which damn button I had to press) when I hear a positively SHRILL cry of, "SARRRAAAAHAHHHHH!!!!" I literally SCREAMED, and when I looked up, I saw Julia barreling towards me! I was like, "AHMAGADDD!"
We were so excited to see each other. We've been good friends for such a long time, but never got to meet face to face until then. Nadja was with her, who I've also been friends with for a long time. We exchanged greetings, and I introduced the two of them to Chantal.
We headed over to see Automatic Love Letter, since Julia likes them. There was a lot of flailing and camwhoring.
Julia, in all her adorable glory. XD
Nadja, being pretty. Guys, you can't see it in this picture, but she has an AMAZING chest piece
Me and Julia!
Ferris wheel!
After a few minutes, we got bored and decided to walk over to where Cobra Starship would be playing to wait. We managed to get a pretty good spot, not too far into the pit so we wouldn't DIE, but not too far away either so we'd be able to see their (vurry attractive) faces.
We didn't have to wait long. They took the stage, the crowd EXPLODED, and they proceeded to play an AWESOME set. I have to say, their set was definitely one of the best I saw all day. Here's the set list (and it should be noted that I actually took NOTES during the set so I wouldn't forget the order haha):
The City Is At War
Send My Love to the Dance Floor I'll See You In Hell (Hey Mister DJ)
The Church of Hot Addiction
Kiss My Sass
Smile for the Paparazzi
Snakes On A Plane
Guilty Pleasure
Gah it was so amazing. MAKE ME DANCE, GABE. \o/ Anyway, pix.
VICKY-TTTTT OMG
GOD GABE, HOW ARE YOU SO ATTRACTIVE.
UGH SO MUCH ATTRACTIVE IN ONE PICTURE
As you can see, I was just a little fixated on Vicky-T
I DEDICATE THIS PICTURE OF GABE TO JEN, WHO COULDN'T BE THERE, BUT WHO LOVES HIM VERYVERY MUCH.
THIS ONE TOO.
Travis came out during "Kiss My Sass"!
PAP-PAP-PAP-PAP-PAPARAZZI
He taught us how to do the Cobra symbol. OH I forgot to mention, there were no less than five people behind me smoking pot hahahaha. This one guy had a bong, and he kept bending down to smoke it.
FANGS UP
BTW, it was their drummer's birthday. Nate, I think his name is? Ryland announced it and he was like, "it's the birthday of the only attractive guy in this band!" hahaha oh Ryland.
So after that we ran over to see The Academy Is. We didn't get too close because the crowd was MASSIVE, but the set list was as follows (again, notes LOL):
Checkmarks
Attention
We've Got a Big Mess On Our Hands
The Phrase That Pays
Lax to O'Hare
Slow Down
Neighbors
Almost Here
Pix:
Julia was like, "Can we discuss my love for William Beckett?"
Chantal started ranting about something and I took a picture of her mid-rant. HAHA XD
This is to show how far away we were, haha.
William took off his shirt and Julia screeched, "I CAN SEE YOUR BOOBIES, BECKETT!!!" IT WAS SO FUNNY OMG.
We chilled for a while after that--got some food, sat down near the big condom igloo (haha don't ask) and chatted. At one point, Chantal started flipping out and we were like "WHAT?" and she was like, "BOYS. MAKING OUT." So we turn around and OMG it looked like there were two guys making out behind us. Nadja was like, "CAN I RENT THEM FOR MY BIRTHDAY PARTY" ahahahaha. But then I had some doubt, because it was too good to be true! Julia snooped and discovered that one of them was in fact a girl. THAT WAS DISAPPOINTING.
At that point we decided to split up. Julia wanted to see if she could spot Hanna Beth and Nadja wanted to see Circa Survive with her friend. Julia had spotted a sign earlier that said Motion City Soundtrack were going to be doing a signing at the Bamboozle tent, and I wanted to bring back a souvenir for Jen (she rlly likes MCST) so we tried to find it. UNFORTUNATELY we couldn't. D: The Bamboozle tent was like, HIDDEN. Instead, we stumbled across the Fulled By Ramen merch tent. There was a huge line of people, and me and Chantal were like WTF, what's with the people. I looked closer, and I saw that a band was doing a signing. It was The Cab! I frantically texted Julia because I know how much she loves Marshall. She texted me back, "MARSHALL!!!" and literally ran across the parking lot. She was there in like, two minutes flat. She got Marshall to pose for her hahaha.
So then she kind of nonchalantly slipped into the line (but we totally weren't cutting, nope), and I followed her. She showed me how to use her camera, and instructed me to take pictures of her with Marshall, and then film her hugging him. Okay, I could do that. OR NOT. I totally fucked up hahaha. I still got pictures, and a video, but they were of stupid things wtf. OH WELL, SHE TOTALLY SQUEALED FOR THE NEXT HALF HOUR ANYWAY.
Here's some pictures from the signing:
Marshall really is adorable. Cash, too. I don't really know the other guys' names haha.
That's Cash climbing off the table. He got on it and started filming us hahaa. And that's Chantal with the red bag.
Then I discovered that the Hush Sound would be doing a signing! I WAS SO EXCITED. I bought a Hush Sound shirt and got on line for them to sign it. And they did! And I have pix! And it was exciting! HUSHIESSSS
GRETAAAAA. BOB.
Chris and Darren <3
here is the shirt they signed:
UMM YAY
Then we uh. Haha. Well, we walked towards a huge bus that said PANIC AT THE DISCO on it, and discovered the honda civic that they designed. it was so GHEY LOOKING. LOOK:
Yeah, I'm retarded and forgot to flip it.
And. Haha. Well, then I realized that I was staring at Korean Tom Cruise. And I was like, "WHAT?" because wtf was he doing there? The five of us were whispering madly and glancing at him, and finally Julia just skipped up to him and was like, "KOREAN TOM CRUISE I'M SO EXCITED TO SEE YOU!" and he was like, "...thank you!" and she said, "CAN I HAVE A PICTURE?" and he said sure, and I photographed them together hahaha.
Then we walked towards the entrance and who was standing there but Marshall and Cash from the Cab! Julia was too scared to approach Marshall, and he eventually walked away.
Cash was wearing a ridiculous Thomas the Tank Engine backpack.
Julia skipped over to him (she does this a lot, she has no shame!) and said, "HI CASH I LIKE YOUR BAG!" and he was like, "Thanks!" And she asked if he would hang out with us and he was like, "Sure!" but then he had to go do something and never came back haha.
THEN we walked back towards the main area. We saw this driveway... or something... and there were a lot of people at the bottom. Plenty of people were walking through, but there was security. We spotted Travis down at the bottom and were like, "OMG." Julia asked the security if we could go down and he said no. :( We watched from afar for a while:
SEE TRAVIS SEE SEE SEE. I also see Korean Tom Cruise. WTF.
Then Julia and I went to the interview she had scheduled with a band called the White Tie Affair. It went really well, and Julia asked some really good questions, and the guys in the band were really nice (...and cute). I GOT A HUG FROM ONE OF THEM. Even though I didn't know who they were. I'd talk about this in more detail but umm there's a lot of other stuff to ramble about.
Like Motion City.
A freakin marching band came out before them.
JUSTINNNNNNNN
I didn't get many pictures because the crowd was INSANE, and for that reason I didn't enjoy their set too much. I mean, they were good (as usual) but I was kind of dying, so yeah. I didn't write down their set, but here's what I remember.
Everything is Alright
It Had to be You
This Is For Real
Let's Get Fucked Up And Die
yeah, I suck, that's all I remember for sure. I think they played "Last Night." There were a couple others too.
Next was the Hush Sound. I left Motion City a little early so I could get there adn get a good spot. Eeee eeee I was so excited. THEY WERE AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME. The sound was actually kind of shitty, adn I don't think that was their fault. If they sound better in Roseland (which has an awesome sound system) I'll know it's not. Anyway, pix:
GRETA I LOVE YOU GODDAMN
SING IT GUUUURL
Ughhh whyyy is she so pretty
She's standing because somebody from another band took over the keyboard.
Ok so there's a story behind this sort of. She was singing this song called "Heat Wave"--I'm assuming it's a cover--and before they started, she told us to put the backs of our hands to our foreheads in a damsel in distress manner every time she said "heat wave." hahaha. She did it every time. SHE'S SO ADORABLE AHHH GRETAAA.
WHOOO. Okay, set list. I KNOW this is accurate because again, I wrote it down in between songs haahha:
Medicine Man
Like Vines
My Apologies
As You Cry
Heat Wave
Crawling Towards the Sun
Honey
Wine Red
It was a long set, but it went sooo quickly. OMG HUSHIES.
So then I went to Gym Class Heroes. Julia had trouble finding me but we found each other eventually. THEIR SET WAS FUN. This is where the subject line of my post comes in, haha. When Travis walked on stage, he was like, "We're the Gym Class Heroes... and we're here to have sex with your ear vaginas!" (I just realized that the plural of vagina is technically vaginae.... HAHAHAHHA WHY IS THAT SO FUNNY) I LOVE HIM, BASICALLY.
Anyway, have some pictures.
We were really far away, so I apologize for the crappy quality.
< ferris wheel randomness >
< /ferris wheel randomness >
YEAH THAT IS GABE SAPORTA THANK YOU FOR NOTICING
I promise I know that dude's name but I just don't know how to spell it. Anyway, he has a really great voice. Really.
So, they played at least three new songs (which were awesomeawesome and involved putting our peace signs up and putting our index fingers down), but the rest of the set went like this:
Shoot Down the Stars
The Queen and I
Viva la White Girl
Cupid's Chokehold
Clothes Off!
GOD THEIR SET WAS AWESOME. I really enjoyed it a lot. It should be noted that when he was singing the opening of "Chokehold," Travis changed the words to "it's safe to say I have some new girlfriends" and pointed to us all. AWW TRAVVIE YOU'RE SUCH A FLIRT.
SO YEAH after their set Julia was like... vibrating with glee and anticipation. We all linked arms and Chantal led. She barreled through the crowd and got us to an amazing position. And then we waited.
There were some memorable moments. There was this mostly naked guy next to me... I felt material on his ass but I think he was only wearing boxers. But at one point I heard him yell, "I AM NAKED AND I WILL FUCK YOU UP!" to someone. Ahahahaha omg. Also, Julia and I started singing a Fall Out Boy song. I forget which one. Then we started singing "A Whole New World." hahaha wow.
Someone threw a broken glowstick and it sprinkled Julia's shirt, and it was fucking GLOWING at it was so cool, and I tried to take a picture but it came out like this:
FAIL. The green shit is the glowstick stuff though. IT WAS SO AWESOME.
Julia felt a primal scream building up in her stomach so she UNLEASHED it adn it was so loud, omg. It freaked out so many people.
This is how excited she was:
That's pretty excited, guys. I was afraid I was goign to have to explain to her mom why her daughter was dead. D:
At one point fog started pouring onto the stage and julia started bouncing. She said something like, "I know it's just fog, but it's MEANINGFUL FOG." Ahahaha wow.
SO THEN PANIC WENT ON AND THE PLACE BLEW UP. \o/
Here's their set. Roughly. I may have forgotten stuff.
We're So Starving
Nine In the Afternoon
But It's Better if You Do (? WTF I DON'T REMEMBER IF THEY PLAYED THIS OR IF I IMAGINED IT)
She's A Handsome Woman
Behind the Sea
Camisado
Lying Is...
The Only Difference Between Martyrdom & Suicide...
That Green Gentleman
I Constantly Thank god For Esteban
I Write Sins Not Tragedies
There's A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered...
Folkin Around
Northern Downpour
Encore:
Time To Dance (acoustic)
Pas De Cheval
Mad As Rabbits
GAH GAH GAH I'M DYING OF LOVE.
There were some incidents though. During the second or third song Chantal got kicked in the face by a crowd surfer and she broke her glasses and lost part of them. She was really upset and hunting all over the floor for them, and people were tripping over her... it was a mess. I didn't even know what was wrong until several songs later. I decided to ignore her once I knew she was physically alright because I wasn't going to let her freak out ruin my experience.
Anyway. So. The security guards were really hilarious guys. They were joking around, and when panic played "Sins" they were totally singing along LOLOLOL OMG I WAS DYING. Have some pix before I continue to ramble:
We were pretty close, but I almost died for these because of how pushy the crowd was.
ARGH JONWALKER ARRRGH YOUR LEVEL OF ATTRACTIVENESS SHOULD BE BANNED. ARRGH WHY ARE YOU SO HOT.
DAMNIT JON DAMNIT DAMNIT WHY.
Blurry Ryden is blurry. BUT IT'S STILL RYDEN.
Oh Ryan Ross. How are you so strange?
We're taking a break for some ~tales from the pit.
Before "Lying" Ryan did that thing where he asked the crowd who was single, and everyone was like AHHH PICK ME RYAN ROSSY ROSS. He laughed adn was like, "Well, so is Brendon Urie." Brendon hung his head in ~shame. Then Ryan said, "But that's not the point. Actually, it is the point." And Brendon hung his head again hahahaha.
JON WALKER TALKED A LOT. I don't remember what he said, but he TALKED. I may have melted.
They talked about Ryan's tambourine. And how you can hit it against any thing. Then Brendon said. Well.
Brendon: Or any part of your body!
Ryan: yeah! like your head.
Brendon: Or your leg.
Ryan: Or your... hips.
Brendon: Or your ass.
It was something like that. TOTALLY SUGGESTIVE. OH STAGEGAY.ILU.
I COULDN'T SEE SPENCER. THIS WASN'T MUCH FUN.
Ryan introduced "sins" by saying, "You guys don't know this song." And Brendon said, "nope, not at all, but you'll learn." I LOL'd IRL.
When Brendon came out to play time to dance, he said that hte rest of the band was playing hackey sack hahaha. Also, he made us sing the doododo piano part in the beginning.
BUT MY FAVORITE THING. Brendon messed up the words to "northern downpour." He said, "look back at boat feet and that winding knee/ I know the world's a broken bone/ but melt your headaches call it home." And ryan said quickly in between lines, "He mixed up the words, but that's okay." And then when it really was time to say the "melt your headaches" bit, Ryan sang it. I thought it was adorable for some reason. Like he wanted to save him from looking too stupid haha.
I CRIED DURING NORTHERN DOWNPOUR IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL OH MY GOD IT IS PROBABLY ON MY TOP FIVE MOST AMAZING SONGS LIVE LIST. RIGHT UP THERE WITH "(AFTER) LIFE" AND "DISENCHANTED" AND "DEATH WISH."
I had so much fun during "mad As Rabbits." I LOVE THAT SONG HARDCORE.
Ok, more pix.
HIS FACE.
UGH HOW IS HE SO PRETTY.
Anyway, that's all! I hope you enjoyed! I KNOW I DID.
So um, what did I learn? How have I changed? Well, I can't stop listening to Cobra Starship. Hah. At least I'm not listening to the Dresden Dolls on repeat anymore (i swear, they were it for me for two whole weeks). Umm. I want to know more about the Cab. Like, maybe listen to some of their music. I have a sunburn on my back. I love Vicky-T like burning. And Gabe. mmmm. I can't wait to see Panic at Roseland on thursday.
Also, I have massive amounts of love for Julia and Nadja. As I've already said, they're totally awesome, and I really hope to see both of them again soon. Well. I'm going to see Nadja on Friday. YAYYY!
OK, I'M TOTALLY ABOUT TO DROP DEAD. I'm going to be on my way to Philadelphia in 14 hours. Ahhhh. That said, I'm not going to be around much for the next several days. I may be able to check my flist from my sidekick but I doubt I'll be able to comment. Email me if you want! periculosa@tmail.com. text: 646-371-3132
