I love those quotes you chose. They both make me want to gather up Frodo, and the others, in my arms and heart, and help share and lessen their burdens.

An intriguing question! If there's a deeper meaning, perhaps when Arwen returned there in her sorrow, and prepared for death, Aragorn's spirit was there to help her transition from her body gently and without pain, and join him in an eternal life with him "beyond the Circles of the World".

I know! wish we could hold them close too ! Comfort them indeed! and hold onto their burdens.
I like your reasoning. I think when Aragorn became King, he is not an average living man either? I always read that also that he wasn't the same when he did ever return to Cerin Amroth. Or maybe he really never did return to Lothlorien?

Oh yes, I love rereading! I tend to read my favourite passages again and again. I have to make sure that I also reread all the other bits as I'm still finding "new" details that I had overlooked before.

As to the Cerin Amroth bit - I never thought about a deeper meaning before, but it's an interesting question....

Rereading is awesome! Glad you share that habit with rereading. There is always something new to read in the books; they are so special!
Thanks- i think i like that question as well.

Huh, I've always wondered about that quote, too. Perhaps he visited it in his dreams or memories, especially as he grew old or close to death. Or perhaps he came after he died in spirit form? Or I like Shirebound's idea, too...

Maybe returning in spirit form! That is an interesting idea as well! Perhaps he got reunited with Arwen there in spirit form? i know that Arwen died of grief in Lothlorien so Aragorn may have rejoined her as spirit at that point! Good catch and point! :)

"And taking Frodo's hand in his, he left the hill of Cerin Amroth and came there never again as living man."

My personal interpretation of this is that Aragorn returned in spirit for Arwen as she died there. I explored the idea in a story.

That's great! Thanks for pointing that out to me. I will check your fic out! :) I agree with that idea and glad it has been explored further.

Hi, Baggins! I had a few seconds to read this morning and just found your birthday wish. Thank you! I so enjoy our brain-storming texts and hate it when work gets in the way of plotting story ideas with you. I've been working a bit too much lately but I hope things settle down by Tuesday. I'm supposed to get a bit of a break then. Wish me luck on that.

As ever, you find such interesting quotes and I love that they all lead to more discussion. I like the idea of Aragorn returning to Arwen in spirit form to ease her pain and grief. The main thing I enjoy about that quote is the fact that Tolkien leaves readers wondering. He doesn't give you the whole story there. He just eludes to more. In a way it's like the riddle game. It makes you consider his choice of words and then wonder if he intended to write more on that or if he hoped others would invent their own ideas.

On another topic, I hope your mom had a great birthday and that you got to help her celebrate. (Hugs)

I wish you luck to not work so hard! Need a break, dear Took! Don't be like Sam in my fic and overwork yourself. ;)

I think it does indeed give fodder for more thoughts and i always wondered about that. He also placed it at end of chapter so it's deliberately placed on his end. lindahoyland linked me to her own fic that explores this so you can check it out too:
