We signed up with a real estate agent today. Under different circumstances, we'd have tried to sell it outselves, but we'll both be away, so we have to pay somebody. Out of the 5 agents we had come look at it, we actually picked the one with the highest assessment, but lowered the price a bit. He's quite enthusiastic about it, unlike some of the others - one hasn't even gotten back to me two weeks after giving me their bid. Unfortunately, it's going to be too late for a big promotional open house they have (figures - I'm always too late for everything), but he still thinks it can sell within three months and give us a bit to stash away towards buying something later on. For now, we will be renting (since we didn't pay off any of the mortgage, we've effectively been renting anyway, but with a less certain ending).
The living room is all set for painting, except it needs a helluva lot of spackling first. It has been our library, with home-made shelves, so right now it looks like somebody ran amok with a machine gun in there. Hopefully this weekend will provide the time to get it ready. There's not much time left afterwards.
