So, Lizzie got me thinking about fantasy taglines the other night. My brain kind of picked up the idea and ran with it, because they're fun to come up with and hardly take any effort at all. Lizzie, if you want to use any of these you're welcome to, but mostly I made them up for my own entertainment. Thanks for the idea!
Reasons Fantasy is Better Than Reality
1. Most disagreements can be resolved by a nice, civilized swordfight.
2. In a fantasy vocabulary, the word “impossible” doesn’t exist.
3. There are few things more beautiful than a dragon in flight.
4. Fantasy adventures may be dangerous, difficult, scary…but never boring.
5. Paperwork? What paperwork?
6. None of this wishy-washy evil business. When a fantasy Dark Lord is around, you know it.
7. If you’re confused, there’s always a Wise Old Wizard there to answer your questions about life, the universe, and everything.
8. In the real world you learn to spell. In fantasy, you learn to do spells.
9. If you’re late, you can always blame it on the bandits who waylaid you on the road.
10. You never have to back up the hard drive on a crystal ball.
11. Everyone gets their own pony.
I've been flipping through the first few chapters of the sixth Harry Potter book, considering actually reading it again. Except I keep remembering all the things that seriously annoyed me about the book, things I could ignore in the initial excitement when I first read it, but now just bother me. And I don't want the books to annoy me, because I really do love them, but I keep getting the urge to take out my red pen and make massive changes.
Anyway. Here's a quote from a very different book, because this is too good not to share:
"Elric sent his mind into twisting tunnels of logic, across endless plains of ideas, through mountains of symbolism and endless universes of alternate truth; he sent his mind out further and further and as it went he sent with it the words which issued from his writhing lips--words that few of his contemporaries would understand, though their very sound would chill the blood of any listener." -Elric of Melnibone, Michael Moorcock
