Yes, it has been a long time since I updated. Is there a reason? Yes and no. I moved into a new place recently, but I had a really hard time getting internet service hooked up, so I was without the sweet sweet convenience of instant information for a while.

Now I have it. Had it for about 1 month. Why no update? Because I am a horribly human being. Just kidding.

So, what is there to update. Suprisingly little, really, so I am just gonna talk about nothing in particular for a while. Actually, let's talk some more about Japan!

So today, while rummaging through the cupboards for some food, I found a forgotten foil packet of S&B Golden Curry (Hot). Oh, sweet sweet curry... Sing to me... As you may already know, I am a curry junkie. Often you will find me outside Indian restaurants begging for change and giving quick handjobs for cash so that I can get me some of that spicy ambrosia. In all seriousness, though, curry is the shit. Really.

Well, S&B Golden Curry is not Indian. It's Japanese. It has all kinds of illegible (to me, anyway) characters all over it, and a delicious picture of its wonderful stirring-spoon lickin' good curried heaven on the front. I had never had Japanese curry before being in the Navy, but I had always loved curried food. Well, in Japan curry is served in curry-houses, usually small places that serve all kinds of curried dishes, with all kinds of meats, with all kinds of spice, etc. When I was stationed in Misawa I visited one of these dens of heavenly vice called... ready?... Pizza and Curry. HA! Japan is so incredible! If you think about it, that's like having a place called Sushi and Haggis. Two foods that are completely unrelated under one roof! Brilliant!

Well, after hearing the name I was doubtful, but I went anyway because I hadn't had curry in... a really long fucking time. So we went in and ordered from the wall menu (which was 8 feet tall, I'm not kidding). It's pretty simple: you had your choice of meat, and then your choice of 'heat'. 1-30. I was wary, so I decided to play it safe with a mild 20-something (I don't remember). Being that I am Mexican (you all knew that, right?), I figured I could handle a little heat. My friend ordered 28. Twenty-eight. Yeah... he cried.

It was damn good. DAMN GOOD. It was unlike any other curry I had ever had. It was much saltier, thicker, and didn't have any bean-type objects in it. It wasn't that hot, really, but enough to know that I was eating something spicy. I tore it up. I had also ordered some of their "Pizza". They should have called their establishment "Pizza-sauce-topped-thin-crust-cracker-objects and Curry". It wasn't horrible, but it was really strange. Definitely not pizza, but creeping up on being something reseambling pizza... and failing.

Side Note: At least it didn't suffer from Cronic-Shrimp-Tasting Japanese Cheese Syndrome. In Japan, at least where I was, the cheese on food always seemed to like shrimp. Nasty. If it was from an American or Western establishment, you had better chances of avoiding the Syndrome, and if it was expensive it also had a good chance, but there was no predicting factors. Every cheesy item was a gamble. It's like playing Russian Roulette with your lunch. You might end up losing it.

So, getting back on topic, I found this packet of Japanese curry roux in my cupboard, so I made a batch. Hot-damn! It's still as good as I remember. Or at least as good as I think I remember. Now, if only I had a few cans of that sweet sweet blissful Georgia Coffee in a can...
