I hope you're sitting down, because I'm about to deliver some shocking news. More shocking, in fact, than the end of the sixth Harry Potter book. Are you ready? *Deep breathe* I really love fried food. I can totally sense lots of minds all being blown at the same time at that stunning revelation. It's not too uncommon for me to eat fried rice with a side of french fries, and then wash it all down with fried chicken and a heaping plate of yakisoba (which, if you aren't in the know, is fried noodles). Hell, there are plenty of foods I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole normally...unless they were fried. I hate vegetables until you dip them in a light batter and deep fry the shit out of them. Squid? Too damn chewy for me, but roll it around in some seasoned bread crumbs and fry it up, and I'm all over like White people and fois gras.
One of my favorite fried food providers used to be McDonalds Japan, but as I wrote a while ago, they have been slippin', kid. Whereas I used to be found at the Kokusai Dori McDonalds on a regular basis snackin' on french fries and juicy chicken sandwiches (interspersed with the occasional Double Quarter Pound with Cheese), for the past few months I've been avoiding the place like it had leprosy. They took away my precious juicy chicken sandwich last year, and I haven't had a compelling reason to go after they stopped serving Big Texas 2 and Idaho Burgers earlier this year. However, with the summer comes a smattering of new offerings from the house that Ronald built. And one of those new things is actually reason enough to start regularly setting foot in Mickey D's again.
What is this mysterious new sandwich that currently has my affections? The Teriyaki Chicken Filet-o. It's the answer to the question, "What happens when a Teriyaki Burger and a Chicken Filet-O make sweet love on a boat?" It's so simple I don't know why it's taken so long for such a thing to exist. But I guess good things do come to those who wait, for it is by far the best chicken sandwich to come out of McDonalds since the Black Pepper Chicken sandwich from two summers ago. Will this marvelous creations become a part of the regular menu? Is it already a part of the regular menu, and I just don't know it because my Japanese reading comprehension is in the toilet? Who knows. In the meantime I'll make it a point to go to McDonalds a bit more often and savor each juicy, teriyakiy, bite.
