Question Time

Oct 23, 2009 08:19

Is it me, or is last night's Question Time one of those occasions where everyone comes out feeling as if they had a win? Nick Griffin can play the martyr to his party, the major parties can feel as if they gave him a kicking and the government and papers can trash-talk the BBC. Meanwhile the Beeb execs are doing conga lines at the ratings and can claim impartiality.

The actual programme was a messy brawl from which no-one, except possibly the lovely Bonnie Greer, came out of very well. No one argued very well. They rambled and ping-ponged back and forth in incandescent rage and it was a low moment when everyone started playing the 'my dad fought for this country' card.

Jack Straw was particularly skeevy, but he did get in one moment of sublime pwnage when he promised as Justice Minister to defend Griffin against the French and Germans while Griffin was trying to dodge his previous history as a holocaust denier.
