Love is war, it is killing us...

I was very touched by Japan: A Story of Love and Hate, a documentary about a couple clinging to existence and each other by their fingernails.

I have been fortunate with my Japanese family to find them accepting and welcoming. So I was moved when Naoki, former Communist and entrepreneur, bubble-economy bankrupt, thrice divorced and estranged from his own kin, found a new family of his own.

However, here was a slice of Japan we almost never see. The 'working poor' who have to endure an oppressive workplace--'Communism trying to be Capitalism'--and a 15 hour workday in order to scrape by on minimum wage. It made for grim viewing.
