Norrington scribbles out another line on the letter that he never finishes. Dear Elizabeth; My dearest Elizabeth; Miss Swann. If he can't even write the salutation, how will he ever get to what he intends as the body of this letter?
"Why did you lie to me?"
"Did you ever really love me?"
and "How can you live with yourself?"
But he knows how. For her, her impending marriage to Will Turner is nothing short of a blessing. She couldn't be happier. Norrington is the one who can no longer live with himself.
He crumples the paper and begins again.
