Where did you get these images?
I acquire images in various places. The sites I use frequently are listed in my resources. At times I utilise Google's image search. A lot of the Interpol images have been posted to the message board at one point or another.

Will you send me the image you used in [this] icon?
Probably not. Google is your friend. I've put a lot of effort into finding the images I use in my graphics. I didn't put forth that effort so that you could be lazy.

Where do you get your brushes/textures?
All of the brush and texture resources I use are listed in my resource post.

What does the tiny text say?
I have no idea. Possibly it's a random lyric, possibly it's a completely nonsensical string of letters. Tiny text is for decoration and isn't meant to be read, so it's very likely that it says nothing whatsoever.

top

What font is that?
The fonts I use most often are Courier New, Arial Black, and Avantgarde Md BT. It's probably one of those.

top

How did you make these?
Believe it or not, I've actually gotten this question several times. There is no answer to it. Every set I post incorporates various styles and techniques, and I almost never do things exactly the same twice. I can't give a neat how-to list, because it's likely I don't even remember what I did. And I certainly can't give a list for an entire set.

Will you make me icons/a layout/a friends only banner/etc.?
No. I have neither the time nor the patience to fill requests. You can make subject suggestions in this post, but I don't take specific requests. However, I have an open offer: buy ofkillingchloe an LJ coupon and I reconsider that position. ;)

Will you teach me how to make icons?
Heh. No. It's a process of trial and error and learning as you go. Believe me, a year ago my icons were so horrible that they now make me cringe. I don't claim to be an elite artist (far from it), but I got as far as I have by putting forth the effort to figure out what looks good and what doesn't.

Why don't you ever make icons of _____?
Probably because I don't like _____. I generally make music icons because music is my obsession. And I only icon bands I like. As for television and movies...I used to icon them. But they do not currently hold my interest enough for me to spend time on graphics featuring them.

top

Why do you link here from communities instead of posting there?
Most icon makers will give you the same answer for this, I expect. I do it to keep all the comments in one place. I like to keep track of how many people like a particular set/style/subject, and the easiest way for me to do that is to have all comments in my journal, rather than scattered through various communities.

top

Do I have to credit you?
You don't have to do anything. I appreciate credit in keywords, mainly because it lets other users know where they can find my icons. Giving keyword credit is respectful and polite, but I'm not going to track you down and scream at you if you don't do it. I only ask that you not claim my work as your own. Note: if you have anything credited to ofkillingchloe, that's fine; you don't need to change it. There's a link in that journal to this one.

How do I credit?
This is a surprisingly common question. I created a tutorial to answer it, which can be found here.

top

May I use [this] icon on [this] message board/DeadJournal/etc.?
No. My icons are for use on LiveJournal and/or GreatestJournal only. Please do not use them anywhere else. NOTE: if you choose to ignore this rule, I am aware that it's probably going to be hard for me to find out about it. I ask that you don't. But if you DO ignore it and use my icons where you're not supposed to, please at least have the courtesy not to hotlink them.

top

Can I add you to my friends list?
Sure. I may or may not friend back, simply because I'm lazy and don't log into this journal regularly. All posts here are public, so there's really no practical reason for reciprocation, after all.

top

You used my image in [this] icon. Will you take it down?
Of course.
