Just a few short drabbles I've done in between random one shots and the World Comes Crashing Down. : ) Enjoy! I'm aiming for a less-angsty batch next time.

Summary:
there have been other moments like this one, more than he would care to admit.
---
When he works down in his shop, there are moments when his gaze flitters up, scanning past machinery and tools in search for something that doesn’t belong among his icy solitude. His fist clenches imperceptibly on the wrench in his hand and the fear that pierces his body doesn’t quite fit with the aching need in his chest. Inhaling, he closes his eyes and pictures auburn curls, reminds himself that she just dropped off papers to be signed and that she won’t be due to leave the office for at least a few more hours.
Bringing his gaze back to the flexing wires of his latest creation, his gaze catches on the hot rod red of his suit and for a moment, the refractive crimson shifts to a different shade of red, one that sends him reeling around in his seat, wrench clattering to the floor.
There have been other moments like that, more than he would like to admit, when he imagines the clicking of stilettos on tile or catches a glimpse of auburn curls from the corner of his eye. For a moment afterwards, his hand hovers above the intercom, clenching and releasing over the button that would end this anxiety with just one push.
But then he’ll drop back down to pick up his wrench, and wait until the next time she decides to visit him, eyes always searching for a flash of auburn curls or a glimpse of freckled skin.

Summary:
he'd been lying to her.
---
He never would have noticed had Pepper not pointed it out to him one day, in between placing a cup of coffee and a muffin on his desk and rambling off about a meeting three hours before he’ll even give it a second thought.
Leaning against the sink, he’d been shaving, humming along mindlessly as he trimmed his goatee, grooming himself as his thoughts wandered. She’d stopped, hesitantly pausing before continuing their early morning banter, a curious, halting smile at her lips.
“What song are you humming?”
Startled, he’d nicked his skin, the mark swelling with crimson blood while his hand tightened on the sink’s edge.
“I don’t know,” he’d murmured, mouth dry.
He’d been lying to her.
She’d dropped the subject after that, heading back upstairs and leaving behind only the echo of her heels and a reminder to shower sometime soon.
He’d stared at the mirror for some time afterwards, his eyes reflecting a look he’d once seen from a man whose gaze now mimicked his own, and tried to convince himself that he was not wasting time.
Title: each breath gives me strength

Theme: #15: Strong
Rating: PG-13
Summary:
beneath his fingers, she moans, a writhing mass of sweat and limbs and tears.
---
Beneath his fingers, she moans, a writhing mass of sweat and limbs and tears. They are curtained by damp, auburn strands and greasy, cotton sheets, and for once in his life, nothing else matters but him and her and how they mold together into a perfect fit, a perfect match and all he needs in life. He shifts, flipping their bodies, only now he’s falling to the floor, crashing on concrete and watching his chair roll away from his aching body.
Lifting himself off the ground, he runs a hand through matted hair, cursing everything from the bruises he just knows are forming and how he can’t keep his mind out of the clouds for long enough to build up his suit, to make it stronger and better and impermeable against the world, to make it stronger and better for her. He snatches a half-drunk can of coke off the desk, too exhausted to find the energy to get something stronger, and finishes the drink in two gulps.
The can crushes beneath his fingertips then, aluminum crumbling together before he tosses it over his shoulder, away from him and back to where the rest of the suit’s weak parts lay, broken wrenches and bent sheets of titanium cushioning its landings.
There is work to do.
