I don't always talk about politics. I was reminded recently about what a lost opportunity Evanescence had way back at the beginning of the century. Before they got lost in the gooey world of radio pop, Evanescence actually showed the potential to become an excellent progressive/power metal band. I remember hearing the song from the Daredevil movie ( Read more... )

Ive been reading your Christmas posts and this one is by far my favorite. Im not a fan of this band but I can see where they could have been good.

score one for Melvin, basically based on this highschool yearbbok version of the band.

Im eager to hear their old music based on your comparison to Nightwish alone.

Keep in mind that they were never as good as Nightwish, but I strongly believe they could've been, had they stayed focused. You can purchase Fallen on ebay for $2 or $3 now. If you buy it, start with track 5 and listen to the end, then go back to tracks 2, 3 & 4. Skip the first song altogether (or just listen to it out of curiosity.) It's a really crappy song that doesn't fit the rest of the album. It almost seems like and afterthought to put it on there. Bad way to start a CD, but the rest of it's okay. Their early demos are really diffucult to find and usually get pretty pricy. A friend of mine loaned me his a while ago and I have one song on and early comp.

I had no idea you were a Night Wish fan. Do you like the new singer? I love her, she reminds me of Debbie Gibson. She smiles a lot and actually looks like she's having fun on stage.

Im a sucker for stuff like Blind Guardian and Nightwish and Hammerfall, stuff that sounds like fantasy metal. I like both Anette and Tarja.

If that's true you need to listen to a band called Rhapsody. They're an incredibly over the top symphonic metal band from Italy who dub their sound "Epic Hollywood Metal." All their albums are concept albums that take place in the fantasy world of Elgard. The first five albums are one story about the Warrior of Ice's journey through evil lands to recapture the legenday Emerald Sword from the grasp of evil dark Lord Akron & his henchman Dargor, Dark Warrior of Black Mountain. The liner notes include story lines and even a map of the fantasy world, so you can follow along. It's the geekiest thing in the world. I love it! They're totally awesome, I recomend starting with the album "Dawn of Victory" then move to the two "Symphony of Enchanted Lands" albums, but whatever you start with, you better be wearing Depends, because you're gonna crap yourself when you hear them ( ... )
