Oh, and applied math? Ick. I love math, but I like it best when it doesn't have any practical use.

I prefer "theoretical" math too ... but I think my students would be more invested in an applied math. There's a book that called Mathematical Models which presents 9 different problems. Each problem starts the student off with the basic math, then works up to the more complicated applied problem. It looks really good, but I'm not going to get to do that here. Boo.
