Happy Fourth!

Spent the day with the family at the Alameda County Fair, as we do every summer.  Roasting midway, overpriced everything, greasy food, horrendous kitsch for sale at every turn, genetic oddities swarming all over the place... how I love it!  And, after a day of rides and lemonade and 4H cake and fried calamari, I am exhausted.

Harriet followed me into my room earlier this evening, and (in her haze of senility) sat at my feet.  I was touched- I wasn't sure that she really remembers me.  Now she's on my bed, curled up against my heart, snoring gently.  She sort of grunts if I accidentally wake her by moving.  It's good to have her here- she reminds me that not everything changes quickly; many things (and cats) take their sweet time.  I'll miss her when she's gone.

life, cats, family, faire
