I bought a Betta fish. He very much needs a name. Also, a house. But mostly a name. He's dark blue, very active, and seems frightened of my finger -- that's about all I've noticed so far. As he's currently being referred to as "My Biology Experiment", a name seems quite in order

Eponine? You'll have to pick a male name from Les Mis, because male Bettas are the pretty ones. ;)
