I've been wanting to do something like this for a long, long while. Finally had a chance to get to the lineart and need to get cracking on the coloring so I can get these cards out in time.

Not quite done, but here's the piece so far. I wanted to draw these two in parallel as much as possible since the purpose of this piece is to highlight their similarities. This meant I wanted to use similar coloring techniques on both. Both have a talisman that is not black and both have a textured hero's cape of sorts. Sherlock's coat pleases me ( Read more... )

Thank you in particular to dickgloucester and rotaryphones, who gave me terrific advice on how to address some of my anatomy concerns. Their suggestions to pose and photograph the husband (when he cooperates) and Getty images were brilliant examples of how improving one's fanart doesn't always happen (at least for me) through isolated self-study.
