Hellloooo daaarrrlings. Ahem, yes. So, last night, during "Sex in the City" on WB17, they happened to show an advertisment for that new WB show "Supernatural". Don't feel too bad about Bloody Mary. She terrified me for years and years, and I still get the creeps if I am every reminded of her. (thanks a lot!!)
And a few words about your PhD. I don't think "smarts" is an issue at all here. It all depends on how motivated one is. As I understand it, grad school is a TON of independent work, and that's a place where you need to rely on yourself only for motivation to complete the work. I know we've had the "I love school but damn I hate the work" conversation before. It is GREAT to learn, and you have a more than healthy appreication for your subject. There's no reason to think that teaching high school is somehow selling yourself short, really. Working with a bunch of high school kids for the last couple months has given me a newfound appreication for them. They love to learn, too. They want teachers that will give them something new and fresh to mull over, because they hate the stodginess part of school so much. I think young people with a non-mainstream view of our world are needed desperately as high school teachers, even middle school. If you teach that for a while, you can always progress to teaching a few night classes at a community college, then work your way up from there. By that time, you'll have delved into enough subjects in your field in enough detail to know exactly what you might be happy researching independently for four yeras. Also by that time, someone might be happy to pay for you to do just that. =]
Judging by the length of that comment, I think you and I need to talk more often! I hope my thoughts gave you a lil something to chew on.
Panda party here we come! ;)
