Well, here I am back at school again. The year has been pretty good so far. My room is really nice -- I have a single again, but it's way bigger than my room last year and my bed's not lofted, which I definitely appreciate. This year is kind of weird because so many of my friends are off campus. The last two years most of us were living on the same block, but now everybody is really spread out, which makes it harder to see people. Also, eating at cafe mac is strange because there are so many people I don't recognize and so many fewer people that I do. I'll probably live off campus next year, but for now I appreciate the convenience of living here...I'm super close to everything plus I don't have to cook.
I like all my classes, although it will definitely be a busy year two 3.5 hour labs and photography, which is 5.5 class hours a week plus the time it takes to get down to St. Kate's. But this year should definitely be better than last year because I'm not in o-chem.
I think the photo class will be a lot of fun, though. I get to learn to do dark room stuff and all sorts of techniques to take cool pictures. I think I'm going to take it pass/fail...not because I don't want to put effort into it, but because it sounds like the grading won't be easy and I'd rather take the class for fun than have to worry a lot about it.
All my other classes are going well too...bio is easy, psych of multiculturalism should be interesting and p-chem definitely won't be easy, but I like it because it's really mathy.
Lately, I've been thinking a lot about study abroad. I was really sure that I wanted to go abroad next semester until I started looking into programs and found out that a) it's really hard to find the equivalent of p-chem II in another country and b) most of the programs end really late in the year, which would prevent me from doing summer research for honors. Also, there are a lot of classes next semester that I want to take and will never be offered again while I'm at mac. I mean, I know study abroad would be a really good experience and all, but I don't want to do it at the expense of my major. I mean, I'm here to learn chemistry not to go to England. I really do think that study abroad is important and really relevant to a lot of college students, but not so much to me. I was kind of thinking, though, that maybe I could do something over the summer, like get a research job in another country instead. That might prevent me from doing honors, but if I'm doing research somewhere else anyways, that might not matter so much. I don't know, maybe I think about things too much and should just go to England anyways...
