I went on this 18 hour cruise with work 2 weeks ago and forgot to put sunscreen on my legs, so I got pretty much the worst sunburn of my life. It's stopped hurting and itching, so now it's just peeling off...I'll just pull off chunks of my skin at a time, which is kind of gross. It's kind of cool, too though...I can pull off a layer of myself, like I'm a snake or something.
But anyways, work is over, which is good but kind of sad too because I liked what I did and the people there. The last week was really stressful because I needed to write my paper (23 pages!) and do my poster and presentation, so I was there till 9 or 10 every night and wrote more when I got home. But my research went well and I have some cool conclusions...even though most people (at least non aquatic science people) don't really care about the relationship between cladophora and silicate cycling in Lake Michigan. And my mentor said that the girl I work with and I were his best REU students yet, so I can totally get awesome recommendation letters! Plus, he used to work in the UK, so he said he might be able to get me connections there once I figure out which university I'm going to next spring!!
But now I have three weeks to relax before school starts. I'm going to Texas for a week, leaving tomorrow at 6 in the morning. My grandparents live in Fort Worth so we're going there to see them. There's not much to do in Fort Worth, so it might be kind of boring, but I haven't seen my grandparents in a while, so that will be nice. Plus, we're going to San Antonio for two days, which is always fun. I'm definitely not looking forward to the 100 degree heat, though.
