Our answering machine was busted by that lightening strike some months ago, I finally got a replacement and set it up last week. I had Jana record the outbound message, give us a call during lunchtime (12-1:30 EDT) to hear it. :D
I finally got her birthday party invitations sent, photo coming. Party will be small and I have decided to forgo my high school reunion so she can have a birthday party near her birthday and I'm not up for traveling to LA one weekend then Hawaii the next weekend. Nor do I want to spend 2-3 weeks traveling during a stretch. Too much. Sigh, I miss another significant reunion I think.
All week, I prepped to participate in a
local kids consignment sale, it is a way cool concept and nicely organized. It's a lot of work sorting and categorizing stuff to put for sale, but it's paying off. Nightly through the sale, I can log in and see which of my stuff sold. I'm also looking forward to visiting the sale myself, I saw lots of nice stuff there.
Saturday, we went to a tomato party in the Grand Islands, NY (15 min from Niagara Falls). It was a blast! 89 varieties of tomatoes, lots of foods (esp desserts) and fun people! (I'd never seen nor imagined Jana could eat so many brownies and chocolate cake!)
My MIL offered her Grand Cherokee with video player in the back for the trip, Michael jumped at it. Jana did watch videos for most of the trip. I don't know. I'm still not completely comfortable with this notion.
Sunday, while a neighbor babysat for Jana, we went to see Genesis! Wow, they are still incredibly talented. I absolutely loved the drumming jam session between Chester Thompson and Phil Collins. Absolutely amazing. I really wanted to get a photo of the front row full of folks with their camera phones trying to shoot the performers, but if you've played with camera phones, you know how fun it is to shoot from a distance.
It was the longest we went out for the evening and we did leave during the last song since our neighbor is a med student and it was a school/work night. It worked out nicely, we kept our house available for them to come in but tried to keep Amanda's home stocked with necessities like raspberries, Newman cookies, milk (white & chocolate), clay, drawing notepad w/ how to draw dinosaurs, doodlepro, Dora potty seat, 1 pull-up, flushable wipes, blankie, etc. Michael thought I was a little excessive, but they apparently did come to the house to grab a DVD (Cinderella) and grapes.
Jana's does not like to be in our house without a parent. I've made other attempts to have a sitter come and I never could leave. But she's happy to be at someone else's home without mom or dad. So having a neighbor like Amanda works out perfectly. She's very sweet and her husband is too, but apparently, it took awhile for Jana to warm up to Ben. I don't know why, they've been neighbors for a year now. They have a chihuahua named, "Lobo." Laugh, they have a great sense of humor. They wouldn't take any money, since she's a med student, I think I'll just have to offer more food or meals at least. We did bring over some roasted veggies today. More to come. :)
