The Artichoke Challenge

Jan 11, 2006 02:39

So every gardening season, I seem to want to try to do something that's considered very difficult for my climate and area. Unfortunately, I have yet to be successful: I've tried a variety of coffee bean seeds, never got them to germinate; start rosemary from seed and keep the darn thing going... just to name a few.

This season it's artichoke. Fortunately, I ordered Imperial Star seeds from JohnnySeeds.com rather than the perennial, Globe. Supposedly, Imperial Stars should produce a crop the first year. However, I'm wondering if I should just plant them in a bed and crop rotate, or maybe set up a winter frame and keep the artichokes there. Even though they can be grown as an annual. Hmm. But, where could I keep the winter frame?
