lots of activism going on at school today. kinda of strange. in woodruff park there was a person dressed up at GW donning a crown with "666" written on it in red, and he had freddie crougar-type rubber hands, gripping a book called "My Pet Goat." Behind him was another person dressed up as Cheney, who was the puppeteer - he has the wooden cross-type-thing with strings that were attached to GW, and one of the strings continued on to connect to a beach-ball globe, which Bush was kicking around. There was a band playing really strange instrumental music to accompany the performance, and about a dozen people standing around recording the whole thing on camcorders, digital cameras, and cell phones. I was kind of impressed.
then when i got back to the plaza, a similar group of people were marching down decatur street with the same posters and banners as featured in th epark, only these people were making a ridiculous amount of noise. i was much less impressed.
i was also approached by a guy from the HRC and asked to join. which i would have, but he lost interest in me once i declared that i didnt have any money to contribute. oh well.
speaking of money, and not having any --
i dont know if any of you ever met wadsworth or heard us tell you about him... he was rescued at the end of january. i went and picked him up from the vacant fenced-in lot where he'd been abandoned with no food or water. he was incredibly thin, malnutritious, and infected with heartworms. heartworm treatment was delayed because he was too thin. after he finally got treatment he went to stay at barking hound. around memorial day, heather and james (who live in the onsite apartment) took him in for the holiday, to free up space in the kennel for boarders. heather was very fond of waddy, so she kept bringing him into the apartment at night and eventually started fostering him fulltime. after a couple of months she finally convinced james to let her adopt him, and they did. he gained a lot of weight, became more active, and was looking sooo good. they take really great care of him and all was well. until monday.
on monday, waddy stopped eating and started acting lethargic. heather took him to the vet, where they determined that his white blood cell and platelet counts were very low. then his red blood cell count dropped. he had to be transferred from their personal vet to dekalb-gwinnet emergency, and then to intown. then fluid started pushing into his lungs. now he's at a specialist, awaiting test results, and we are all very very worried.
wadsworth is only a few years old but he's been through a lot of crap in those few years. heather and james are wonderful people and care so much about him. however, they are kind of strapped financially, and while that would never keep them from getting waddy as much vet care as he needs, i feel so horrible for them and this situation. i started a collection for them at work (with my managers permission, and of course, after making sure heather was ok with it -- she would never ask for help but she can't turn it down if it's offered) and i'm going to borrow some money from my daddy's estate to help too, but the vet bills are insane and its not even over. they owe $500 for the one night at dekalb-gwinnett alone. my guess is, after all the tests they run and different vets they've been to, the total bill will be at least $2000. at LEAST. so i want to help them as much as i can.
so, as much as i feel like a schmuck for even asking this, especially on livejournal, if anyone would like to donate a few dollars to the Wadsworth Fund, i would greatly appreciate it, as would my coworkers and poor little waddy, who undoubtedly feels like shit right now.
in other news, we have a lot of new kittens right now that need people to come play with them. hint hint, come visit us and play with kittens, hint hint.
i think thats all i feel like saying for now.
