Yes, Mika was caught in the area of the hurricane and tsunami. I know she is alright, but what makes me feel worse is that I can't be there for her. I know that if I were in Japan right now I would feel even worse because I would be in Sapporo and unable to get to her

I know it's not the same as being there for her yourself, but maybe one of our UMass classmates would be able to get a hold of her on your behalf, and pass along your message about going to Sapporo? They've all been in regular contact via Facebook, so it'd be easy enough to get the message out there. I'm glad you were at least able to confirm that she's all right.

As for the job, have they been in contact with you about it at all? It's only been five days since all of this started. Maybe they would be willing to hold the position for you until the travel advisory is lifted and give you more time to decide.

Even though the situation is beyond awful, I'm still just grateful that you're safe. ; . ; *hugs*
