OED

I've just discovered I can access the Oxford English Dictionary online from my laptop, provided it's connected to my school's network.

And on top of that, I can add an OED button to the little search engine bar on Firefox.

How cool is that?

Ahem.

I'm up working on my Oxford essay. Yes, the one due tomorrow afternoon. Yes, the one that my entire next year of school--not to mention the great ambition of my life thus far--depends on. I've had it half-written in my head for a while, but it turns out that's just not good enough for the selection committee. Who knew? I'm trying to strike a balance between desperate enthusiasm and self-contained straightforwardness (Straightforwardness? Now there's a word not to use in said essay. Maybe doing this so late at night was a bad plan....), which is really tough when I mostly just want to throw myself at their feet and beg them to admit me.

So, just to procrastinate a little more, here's my final tutorial selection:

Shakespeare
History & Theory of the English Language
C. S. Lewis (or Special Authors: Donne, if that doesn't work out) (half unit)
Creative Writing (half unit)
Logic & Set Theory (possibly just a half unit)
Philosophy of Mathematics
Number Theory

I'll drop a course or two if they won't let me do the whole thing. But darnit, a year is really short, and they have a heck of a lot of subjects at Oxford.

Here's hoping the essay turns out to be decent, and that my recommendations are really wonderful, and that the interview goes flawlessly, and that my more-than-respectable-but-definitely-not-4.0 GPA is good enough. Urgh. I don't think I cared this much about college admissions. And yet, still up late the night before...I'll never learn.

Oh, and check out the icon. Do you think they'll give me extra points for that?
