Dear Yuletide writer
Thank you for offering one of these fandoms! I hope you enjoy writing for me. I wrote a post about my preferences in fic a couple of years ago, if you find that useful.
My requests for this year:
Fandom: Queen's Thief Series - Megan Whalen Turner
Characters: Eddis, Attolia
I would love to see Eddis and Attolia clashing and cooperating at any point in the series timeline. I'm a sucker for political intrigue, diplomacy (in anyone's name!), and respectful relationships complicated by widely different priorities.
Suggestions, though feel free to do what you will: Eddis and Attolia corresponding on some military or economic disagreement before the start of the series, successfully or not; each of them responding to the other's rise to power; negotiations surrounding the wedding post-Queen of Attolia; Eddis attending Attolia's wedding and vice versa; negotiations surrounding the wedding and balance of power of the three nations post-Conspiracy of Kings; a future-fic where they deal with the renewed threat of the Mede Empire.
I adore the Magus and would love it if he figured somehow in the story. I also love Gen and Sophos, but I'd particularly enjoy a story where the queens are discussing something other than Gen's place in their lives, or where his primary significance to the conversation is political rather than personal.
Fandom: Chalion Saga - Lois McMaster Bujold
Characters: Betriz dy Ferrej, Iselle dy Chalion, Ista dy Chalion
I love the women of this series, and I would be tremendously happy to get two or three of the ones I've selected, in any combination. I'm very fond of Cazaril, so he'd be a bonus. Things I'd particularly appreciate in Chalion fic: politics, caring relationships (platonic or otherwise) that still carry the tension of strong personalities and occasional disagreement, and watching the characters make and live with difficult decisions.
Fandom: Mary Russell - Laurie R. King
Characters: Mary Russell
I'm craving something old-school from this series. I'd love something set pre-MREG in particular. Missing scenes of Russell at Oxford, perhaps, such as outtakes of her tutorials with Donleavy or coming back to her studies after the conclusion of BEEK? Training and early cases with Holmes? A quiet scene with Mrs. Hudson? I'm also a sucker for alternate timeline-style AUs.
Of course, if you're leaning toward a story later in the timeline, do please have at it!
Fandom: The Magicians - Lev Grossman
Characters: Julia
I almost didn't request this, because my gift last year was so incredibly satisfying, but there's still so much room for for Julia-centric fic, and I'd love to see more authors tackle her As last year, any meeting between her and Alice would be lovely, however you can swing it. Here are some completely different ideas, though:
* pre-series character exploration; what was she like before she found magic and had it taken from her?
* AU, where she doesn't remember/pursue magic after the Brakebills exam
* AU, where things don't go so horribly wrong for her in the backstory we get in The Magician King. What does she build and accomplish with the family she made?
* Julia as Queen of Fillory; some sort of pre-Magician King quest, adventure, or quiet exploration?
* anything post-Magician King
