So, the third season of Doctor Who started here tonight. And I cannot contain my excitement! Both over it and over Torchwood. :D
I'm putting everything under cuts because I know Lady Unicorn would kill me if I spoiled anything for her. *looks at Lady Unicorn* You've been warned. Don't look *winks*

Because the US scheduling sucks and I just watch whatever Doctor Who I can get, I saw most of Season 3 before finally seeing the Season 2 finale last week. I like the new Season 3 companion okay, but gah, that Season 2 finale just reminded me how good together the Doctor and Rose were. I wished there were more Rose references throughout Season 3, but I guess the show needed to move on from her. Also, the 2nd half of Season 3 is AMAZING! :) Not that the 1st half is bad or anything, but yeah, 2nd half, amazing.

However, on the subject of Rose and Martha, I'm afraid I must disagree there. Rose was excellent with Nine. His personality was much darker than Ten (although I think Ten is much darker overall--again, the ending of Family of Blodd had me shivering), and she was very good at lightening him up, and reminding him what it was to be human--sort of. ~_^ Nine had just reincarnated after the Time War, and carried his wounds very openly.
Ten didn't need Rose the same way. He's a lot more manic, far more cheeky, and much less brooding. Their relationship dynamic didn't gel the same way. I cried buckets after Doomsday, but not quite the way I would have if that was the way the first season ended ( ... )

Maybe not, but she needed him. It's only my personal preference, but I tend to like melodrama and angst, so I ate up the Doctor/Rose dynamic. With Doctor/Martha, you don't get the same connection and that sense of absolute mutual trust/reliance/understanding. I know it's not supposed to be the same and Doctor/Martha is supposed to be a much less needy relationship, and I totally understand why people would like that better. I agree that in many ways, Martha makes a "better" companion, in that she's more intelligent and independent and so on. But again, it's a personal preference thing, and I just happen to like the angst and drama.

Also, please let me know when you've seen more of Torchwood. There is SO MUCH I've been looking forward to talking to people about.
