I just found out the JD Salinger died on Wednesday, and I felt badly about it. Not in a devastating sort of way but enough so that I kind of wanted to remark on it. I haven't even read very many of his books, or I particulary liked the one I did (Catcher and the Rye) but it's still just one of those things.
Such a strange dude that guy was y'know? I mean, how much do you have to hate the world to want to withdraw from it so completely?
You start thinking about if he was happy all by himself like that for so long, if he hated the world and living or just people or everything or nothing--or none of these things at all and he just sort of liked being alone. Then you start thinking about what it would be like to exist and absolutely not want it--
Then it all gets a little too existential. I won't go into it.
But as a little salute I think I'll add Franny and Zooey to my reading list.
Here also marks the first vote to the petition to never make Catcher in the Rye into a movie. How many producers are salivating until that fifty-year mark or however long it is, do you think? They probably have a special calender for it. I don't know anything about copyrights but, really, I hope that movie never happens. if it does--that's just disgracing the author, that is.
