On an abandoned street, a lone streetlight stood silent sentry above a lone angel in a trench coat. There was thunder and lightning, and suddenly the angel wasn’t alone anymore.
Chloe, Dean and the boys looked around as if not certain what to expect. When Chloe’s eyes lit on the modern street light, her lips turned upward. “Home,” she breathed.
“Finally,” Dean said. His eyes fell on Castiel, and his face turned downward. “You! What are you doing here?”
“I’ve come to give you your eternal reward.” Castiel intoned.
“Why don’t I like the sound of that?” Chance muttered to Ben.
Before anyone could do anything, Castiel thrust a box of Krispie Kreme donuts into Dean’s hands.
“Well now,” Dean’s face lit up. “That’s my eternal reward? That’s what I’m talking about!”
“Dean!” Chloe frowned.
Dean shot her a smirk. “Aw, come on, honey. They’re still hot! It’s like eating a baby angel!”
Castiel suddenly looked uncomfortable. Ben gave him a knowing look. “You ate one, didn’t you?”
The angel gulped, and shifted uncomfortably. “Three,” he said.

Three Weeks Earlier
Castiel sat in the salon of Wayne Manor on a thick, overstuffed couch with a deep seat. His vessel was over six feet tall, yet his feet wouldn’t quite touch the ground. He found himself swinging his legs and kicking the coffee table in front of him. He’d watched a little boy doing this on a park bench for fifteen minutes earlier today. And while he couldn’t quite determine the function for the action, it did kill time in a most satisfying way.
Just then the butler entered the room. He frowned at Castiel until the angel felt compelled to stop swinging his legs. Castiel looked down at his knees as he felt a curious heat spread across his face.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Castiel,” the butler said in a clipped British accent. “But I’m afraid that Mr. Wayne is unable to provide assistance in this matter.
Castiel blinked at that. Unable to provide assistance? But he was a messenger of God. How do you say no to a messenger of God?
Before he could argue, the door behind the butler opened. A dark-skinned man stepped through, and looked from the butler to Castiel and back. “Alfred, is this a good time?”
The butler smiled at the new visitor. “Of course, Mr. Fox. I’ll tell Mr. Wayne that you’re here.”
Castiel’s eyes widened as he looked at Mr. Fox. He rose, and crossed the room with shaky steps. Then he dropped to his knees and clutched Mr. Fox’s hand.
Mr. Fox stared at him with kindly eyes. “Are you alright, son?”
“I . . . yes,” he said breathlessly. He looked uncertainly from the butler to Mr. Fox and Back. “I wasn’t told that you were here.”
Mr. Fox smiled at him. “I usually am. Mr. Wayne is an important man. I work for him.”
Castiel nodded in understanding. “I . . . see. I’ll just go, then.”
Mr. Fox smiled kindly at him. “You be safe out there son. The world is a dangerous place.”
Castiel nodded thoughtfully as he left. Once the angel was out of the door, Alfred looked suspiciously at Mr. Fox. “What was that about?”
Lucius Fox shrugged his shoulders. “I have no idea.”
A/N: If you really need an explanation for that joke, just scroll down a bit.
Morgan Freeman, who plays Lucius Fox in the Batman series, also plays God in both Bruice Almighty and Evan Almighty. Castiel recognized a bit of a resemblance.
