I mentioned earlier that one Sunday, our pastor pointed right to me during his sermon on the Beatitudes and it was if he was speaking to me. Coincidence? If I had any thoughts that was the case, then today spelled out very clearly that God is speaking through him to me. He said that God spoke to him of Exodus 3:1-22 and that the message was so important, he felt compelled to put aside the continued sermon series on the Beatitudes and instead, discuss this passage in Exodus. In it, Moses had already fled Egypt and was comfortable with his life as it was (as a shepherd). He then came upon the burning bush. The fire did not consume the bush and Moses went forward and received the words of God which directed him to return to Egypt and lead the Hebrews out. Moses, however, came up with excuses to not do it. It was outside his comfort zone. He was content to let things slide and go as they were. God, of course, shot down every one of his excuses till there was only one option left...go to Egypt and lead his people out.
What spoke to me most was how living in a comfort zone inherently limits you. You keep to yourself, you don't make waves, and you distance yourself. You don't like thinking about it and you don't want to risk harm. So, you just keep it all in and don't step out of it. This is what I do...live in the tiny shell called my comfort zone and everything around me rots because of it.
The pastor's words said that when you open yourself to God, throw the garbage you have created at His feet, you step out of that comfort zone. And when you have done so with God, then so to will it happen with those around you.
This, then, is now my path.
