So there are a few more hours left in the voting for round 1 of Fandom March Madness, and there are some crazy tight races. If you haven't voted and care to,
go do so!!! I've seen appeals for Kara Thrace, for whom I did vote, and for Sam Carter, for whom I confess I did not (I adore Sam, but it's Scully, y'all!), but I'm going to make my appeals for the tight races. Specifically, AERYN SUN DOES NOT GET KNOCKED OUT IN THE FIRST ROUND BY SOME PERSON I'VE NEVER HEARD OF!!!!!!! Go vote for my girl! (please!)
I realize this one calls upon more divided loyalties, but the race between CJ and Parker is exceedingly close, and yes, I love Parker, but CJ Freakin' Cregg! Come on!
I'd also point out that Leslie Knope is in a very close race, and it's possible that Spock could lose to Dean Winchester, which I'm pretty sure would upset the order of all holy things.
Anyway, fun times!
Vote for Aeryn! **
And while I'm procrastinating, have that book meme that's been going around:
The book(s) I am reading: Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel; The History of Reading ed. Shafquat Towheed, Rosalind Crone, and Katie Halsey; and A History of the Book in America, Volume 2: An Extensive Republic: Print, Culture, and Society in the New Nation, 1790-1840 ed. Robert A. Gross and Mary Kelly
The book I am writing: Books in General: British Intellectual Weekly Periodicals and the Book Trade, 1918-1939. Allegedly.
The book I love most: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (C.S. Lewis), because it was my favorite childhood book; The Great Gatsby (F. Scott Fitzgerald), because I saw the green light at the end of Daisy's dock and fell in love with English lit. as a discipline; Bibliography and the Sociology of Texts (D.F. McKenzie), because it was a career-changer, and book history is awesome. But I think if I were forced to have only one book for the rest of my life, it would be Mrs. Dalloway (Virginia Woolf), because it was Clarissa, and there she was.
The last book I received as a gift: I just came home with a haul from a book exchange, but I don't think that really counts, nor does
gabolange bringing me a bunch of books, since they were books I'd bought myself. So Gilead by Marilynne Robinson, which was a gift from my roommate, for no occasion in particular, just because she thought I'd like it. (I haven't read it yet, but it will probably be next after Wolf Hall.)
The last book I gave as a gift: Again, the book exchange doesn't really count. So probably The Paper Bag Princess, I Love You Forever, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar to J. and L.
The nearest book on my desk: The History of Reading and Wolf Hall are sitting on top of each other beside me.
