I was poking at an LJ comm the other day in which people were commenting with their Facebook identities. Rationally, I can't think of anything wrong with this (it's a public comm, after all, and if other people want to link their LJs and Facebooks, so be it), but I was still kind of squicked out, and I've let it be the thing that pushed me over ( Read more... )

Because I want to use DW more but I also want to be reading and commenting where the discussion is. The split, I do not like it, but I don't see any way to avoid it.Precisely! So precisely, in fact, that I just said the same thing (even using the words "baby steps" in response to a comment on DW--which entirely proves the point, since now I'm saying the same thing to you here ( ... )

Though it's more a function of wanting all my friends in ONE PLACEExactly. What I adore about the LJ code base--whether here or on DW or elsewhere--is the conversation possibilities in the threading comments. I'm not just reading the content of people's posts, I'm participating in conversations and community in the comments. Yet now these conversations are increasingly split: one part of the conversation happening here, another part on DW, and that's the thing I don't like. Yet the only current solution to the problem--to direct all comments to DW--is something I really do not want to implement. I'll get used to it, I'm sure; I'm already used to it as a reader of people who crosspost. But it is the number one thing I don't like about the system, especially since I have every expectation that this will be the status quo for years to come, unless LJ starts screwing up even more badly than they're already doing ( ... )
