Have yesterday and today together:

Day 08 - A show everyone should watch

I think I will try to take that "everyone" as literally as possible and go for the show I think is both awesome and has wide appeal. There are a number of shows that I think people who like certain kinds of television would love and should watch (Farscape, for instance, for everyone who loves sci fi and/or awesome narrative arcs and/or compelling and uncompromising storytelling and/or muppets who will make you cry), but I recognize that many of those are not for "everyone." Neither, really, is this one, but I think it has pretty wide appeal: I recommend it to geeks and non-geeks alike: Castle.

Seriously, if you like clever, quippy, punny humor, if you have any procedural buttons at all, if you like the idea of a show that manages simultaneously to be really smart and also not take itself very seriously, if you like characters who actually act like adults, if you like very careful writing, and if you like a show that just keeps getting more awesome on the attention-to-female-characters front, this is your show! Also, there is Nathan Fillion. :)

Day 09 - Best scene ever

ONE scene?????? Oh, this is hard! Except also sort of not, because although there are dozens of scenes from dozens of shows that come to mind, there is one that stands out just a little bit, for the way that it manages to do everything just right: telling enough story but not too much, showing emotion and character in small gestures, getting the blocking and directing and editing and music and everything perfect. Most of all, it brings a multi-episode arc to the perfect finale, in terms of both plot and character. The season 2 finale of The West Wing, "Two Cathedrals," is one of the best episodes of any show ever, and I think the final five minutes or so of that episode may well be the best scene of any show I've ever seen.
